Just a question
I was watching the news and a national guardsman was shown who will be going on his THIRD deployment in this war. It was wrenching to watch him and his family. Since the Guard belong to their states, is it possible for a governor to keep them from deploying?

If the guard is going out again in your state, would a campaign to the governor to keep them from going work?

2. Wasn't there a gov who tried this tactic (Wyoming? somewhere
where they needed their firefighters) and got shot down, maybe last year?

3. I don't think they can once federalized
To do some otherwise would be rebellion.

However, I wonder if things got bad enough, the NG would rally to a governor instead of the Pentagon.

Scary, scary thoughts.

5. Sad but true. prez trumps gov. My unit was federalized by JFK
in Birmingham during the 'troubles' there in the 60s.

4. Not Wyoming, Montana, and it went nowhere:
n March 2005, Schweitzer sparked controversy by suggesting that Montana's National Guard troops be recalled from service in Iraq to assist firefighting during Montana's wildfire season.

7. There was a recent meeting of gov's who expressed concern
for their guard being overused and not being available for state emergencies, but I don't know if they even brought it up with Chimpy when they met with him.
