Liberals push to impeach Bush

Congressional Democrats say their constituents are clamoring for something even the most liberal lawmakers promise they won't pursue: President Bush's impeachment.
"I get one call after another saying, 'Impeach the president,' " said Rep. John P. Murtha, Pennsylvania Democrat and one of Mr. Bush's most relentless critics on the Iraq war.
"It's a simple process but a very divisive thing," Mr. Murtha said. "You've got to measure what it's going to do to the country, and at this point I don't see that happening. Instead we'll fight it out on the issues."
Some members speculated that the Democratic takeover of Congress and passage of Iraq withdrawal timetables in both the House and Senate have emboldened liberals across the country who want to see the president embarrassed during his final 21 months in office.
"The timing is all wrong," said Rep. Jerrold Nadler, New York Democrat. "If this were the first two years of his administration I would advocate impeachment. A lot of people at home say impeachment, and I'm sure he committed a lot of impeachable offenses, but think about it practically."
Mr. Nadler said impeachment hearings would be pointless and would only distract the country from the presidential election next year.
Democrats say their constituents also want them to target such administration figures as Vice President Dick Cheney, Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales and Karl Rove, Mr. Bush's chief political adviser.

3. Not to mention, despite the title, most 'liberals' quoted have swept
impeachment off the table (still scratching my head over that; if anyone deserves it, dimson does).

4. The nut case right wingers use "democrat" and "liberal" interchangeably.
And we need to figuratively keep goosing our congress critters to grow a spine and IMPEACH. It's the representatives, not the Democratic Voters who are dragging their feet.

The time is NOW Congress! Focus MOST on doing your damn jobs and your re-election will follow accordingly. That is, IMO, our Congress is too damn tentative.

5. Their excuse is there isn't enough time. There might be if they get off
their asses and 'just do it'. There's ample proof he's/they're deserving.

6. Yeah - like Murtha is sooooo liberal...
:eyes:

Don't get me wrong, I like Jack Murtha, but he's not really "liberal" on anything but the war.

10. Not enough people in the streets demanding that also.

I mean.... On a steady basis... Like in "Permanent" or "Non-stop" fashion...

Maybe it's one of the reasons why they keep gouging us at the pump too.

Got to keep that third job just to make ends meet.

No time left to protest calling for their impeachment (both of 'em, of course).

11. Just like the far right impeached Clinton with no hope of conviction
that's what we would do by impeaching Bush. Besides, it would take time and effort away from going after Gonzales and Cheney and Halliburton and trying to start health
care reform, etc etc etc.

In addition to that, there are two very important things to consider:

First, we won't get 67 Senators to vote for conviction in the Senate.
Second, even if we did, then it's President Cheney. Trade a smirk for
a snarl?

Those Democrats are absolutely right who say we need to target Cheney,
Gonzales, and Rove. Cut off the water that nourishes the poisonous plant,
rather than the visible bud at its tip.
