I will never ever support a republican... Even if they run unopposed...
I don't care if it's for finance director of my city, dog catcher whatever, I will never ever support a republican...

If a republican challenges my party affiliation I will always say just two words... George Bush...

There is nothing, absolutely nothing that a republican can say to ever distance themselves from the stench of George Bush...

To me, that party is dead...

If they bring up Clinton I will just laugh and say unabashedly that he was the best president since LBJ...

If they bring up Saint Ronnie, I will say he is directly responsible for George Bush since he elevated his daffy old man to the presidency...

If they cast any dispersions toward Hillary, I will answer she is the best first lady this country ever had...

The Republicans are the party of Hoover, Bush, Bush, three of the worst presidents of all time with RR circling the toilet right behind them...

What can one possible say to a GOP supporter except, "your party has almost destroyed this great country of ours. Now stand aside and let the adults clean up your 28 year temper tantrum...."

5. A bit peeved are we this morning?
Given a choice between Zell Miller and Olympia Snowe, I could see not voting Democratic.

Lincoln was also a Republican. LBJ was no prince. There were many other first ladies who were very well thought of and effective. HRC is clearly not in their league.

Rant if you wish, but those of us with clearer thinking understand and will manage the subtleties you seem unable to deal with.

8. While I agree
mostly with the OP's sentiments I'm having a dilemma right now. There is a very good, competent person running for County Sherrif and he happens to be a republican. But his career in law enforcement is beyond reproach. He most likely will get my support. At the local level here in South Mississippi the Dems are without a doubt the lesser of two evils in most cases.

30. In my locality most politicians are either Democratic or Republican.
They may be primarily associated with one of the two major parties, but they also run on lesser party lines, such as liberal, conservative, right to life, etc. Is this an option you can use?

I always vote on the lesser party lines if possible. I think it helps to keep the politicians on their toes.

But I am not a Republican, nor am I a Democrat, I am an unaffiliated voter.

I vote for the most liberal candidate that I can, if that makes me a Republican, so be it.

Of course in New York State, our Republicans are often more liberal that many other states Democrats.

He went against his beloved South in order to better serve the country...

Name one republican who put the good of the country above the good of his crony's...

Not since Teddy Roosevelt has a Republican stood up against the powers behind the scene...

And being "well thought of" is a far cry from actually doing anything of beyond the exercises in traditional PR most First Lady's accept as their roll...

I wouldn't vote for either...

Snowe has gone along with the GOP in the Senate and let them rape the coutry...

Name one republican who put the good of the country above the good of his crony's...Lincoln, Ike also had a good track record. I also noticed that you seemed to ignore Carter when you said Clinton was the best president since LBJ, which I found odd.

Not all Dems are saints, not all Repukes are demons. The parties vary tremendously based on location. Democrats in Kansas have differing views that the Democrats from California. Knee jerk small mindedness is not the way to rebuild a nation effectively. Work with good people of all stripes toward common goals. The Democratic Party is and should be a big tent. Being ridgidly doctrinaire is for the fools or those who want the progressive movement to fail.

28. Sorry, but that's a huge stretch. Yeah, elements of the above have
occurred, mostly unopposed or even abetted by Democrats, I should add--but not to the extent that the term "Nazi atrocity" could even APPROACH applicable or appropriate in terms of the GOP--we do ourselves (and history) a grave disservice by making comparisons like that.

31. There was a time when the Nazis just had "elements" of atrocities
Hitler was party leader back in 1921, 12 years before the "official" establishment of the Third Reich. We may not be at 1944 yet, but it's starting to feel a bit like 1933, just after the Reichstag fire. The real difference here is that there are still patriots in the country who are opposing them.

Honestly, can you really look at the photos from Abu Ghraib and say that "Nazi atrocity" does not even "APPROACH applicable or appropriate in terms of the GOP"?? Looks like it's getting pretty close from where I sit.

32. Atrocities occur all the time, all over the world, and we are unfortunately
no exception, much as we like to believe we have the moral high ground. We have allowed our government to go overboard in our quest for protection against terrorism, no doubt about it. But I firmly believe that no GOPer in office is even remotely close to publicly espousing mass genocide, war crimes, etc. no matter how misguided or twisted they may be--yes, even Cheney. Hagel is not a Nazi, and it's sad that you think so.

Did he call for investigations? Did he demand a special prosecutor? He may not be commiting the war crimes himself, but he's certainly holding the criminals' coats.

And, of course, there's the whole gettting elected on his own company's voting machines. Sorry, that's more Stalinist than Nazi...

Edited on Fri Apr-06-07 12:59 PM by Kerry2008
Maybe if I had a moderate Republican family member or friend that I thought would do the best job they could, and wouldn't do what these current Republicans are doing. That's the only scenario I could think of. I distrust Republicans, and for good reason. Modern day Republicans especially are the most corrupt, most judgmental, and most wrong generation of Republicans I've ever seen.

19. I made that personal pledge after Nixon
and was rarely tempted to make any exception thanks to a continual and visible degradation of the GOP ever since. Two decent politicians, one my father always backed, made it easier by getting out or squeezed out. So I maintained a perfect record with an absolutely clear conscience.

Many Republicans, very many women, have left their party. The only good Republican is a "once Republican but no more." I am not tempted to take a lamp around the nation to find an exception. I can't afford that many pairs of shoes much less the lamp fuel.

This is a political judgment based on affiliation based on accepting an agenda and taking responsibility
for their party- which the GOP does rigidly and enthusiastically no matter the cost to nation or world. There is no corollary unfortunately saying that all Dems are the best and the blameless. No lazy benefit of a single default alternative. That is where there still is work to be done or the same thing will happen to this party as well.

the "Democrat" running in the race has had long ties to the GOP throughout his career, but when the opportunity for him to run came (he was re-elected in '06) he knew he couldn't get elected here as a Repub...so he told people he was a Democrat. in '04 he went to all sorts of GOP fundraisers and hung out with some pretty disgusting folks...

on top of all of that he is ego-driven and completely incompetent, and unfortunately i knew he was going to win because most people just voted straight ticket Dem (which i would've done)...so i voted for the man who at least has the honesty to tell you what he believes in.

Edited on Sat Apr-07-07 09:24 PM by antiimperialist
Party labels are not as important as ideologies.
The Republican party in Civil War times, for example, was the good party; the liberal party; the party for progress and against Slavery. The Democratic Party in the 1860's was the equivalent of today's Republican party. They were backwards, conservative, pro-slavery, elitist, racist, etc.
My point is that parties can change their ideology from time to time, but conservatives are progressives will always be there. Sometimes they will call "X", other times they will be called "Y".
But it is conservatives who would never vote for.

50. I meant republicans...
The majority in office will decide the rules, look at the House and Senate...

If my choice was a pro-choice Republican vs. a pro-life democrat, I would still vote for the dem because I know that candidate is in a minority within our party which would have the majority...

We see how much influence Lincoln Chafee had within his party now don't we...

No, the party structure runs far deeper than you can imagine if you haven't been involved as I have at the local level...

Office holders give out jobs which equals feet on the ground come election time which means democrats up and down the ticket will have a better chance of winning...

Money and volunteers go to where the votes are...

And look, the republicans created this hyper partisan atmosphere...

It's time they reap what they have sown...

We Democrats should work hard to make sure every seat is contested. We should try to find candidates to oppose every Republican. We should never concede a seat without an effort to win it.

And, no, I don't see a situation where I would vote for a Republican.

Jimmy Carter was ineffectual, and apart from him there've been, what, Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush and Bush?

I'm also interested that you say "since LBJ" rather than "since JFK" - do you think Johnson was a better president than Clinton, in spite of Vietnam?
