Let me post this link one more time

--- I added this to the thread about the late-80's BCCI scandal, but it is truly an article that every DU'er ought to read. Steady, though,... it's from Free Republic,...but was researched and written while Bush was governor of Texas,... and the slant of the article clearly does not favor Bush. I don't think they wanted him to be the nominee. The information it contains, relative to the BCCI scandal, the Bush-Saudi connections, and W's business background is nothing short of astounding. Here's the link: www.freerepublic.com/forum/a37f1ce197112.htm

--- Well worth the read.

4. What the hell difference does that make?
--- The information in the article is way more important than whatever principle attaches to depriving them of a "hit."

5. We've heard it all before..
and I agree with the above...and further, if it's from the Free Republic, rest assured it was someone from here giving them the information...someone consumed with killing the future for a Clinton presidency.

6. Fascinating!
And to find it there. I wonder how many of the posters on that thread have left FR. It seems that most were rooting for somebody else to be the Republican nominee. If these people are still on FR they must be lamenting the drop in the level of discourse since then. This gives me a whole new insight into FR.

11. For the past 6 years
I have been telling every conservative who will listen that the Republican party has been hijacked and will be destroyed by the Bushies. I do not think that is an inherently good thing. It's better to have some balance in government.

13. Definitely hijacked,.....
Edited on Thu Apr-05-07 02:04 PM by Parisle
--- Several inter-related forces are at work, here, I think. For one thing, Bush Sr must certainly have learned a lot and laid some plans and groundwork from his stint at the CIA. Hell, one could be persuaded that he invented the small plane crash, eh?

--- That could be in some ways attendant to his and his family relationship with the Saudi royals. How the hell did THAT happen? The article I've linked is sure evidence of it,.. as is the whole BCCI business,.. the Carlyle outfit, etc, etc. The stage was set.

--- Enter the PNAC. And I think to be accurate, it's the PNAC which did the hijacking. Most republicans are sort of trained to go along with whomever is calling their shots, anyway,.. so the party as a whole was a rather easy mark for the neocon neo-nazis,.. particularly since the usual Big Oil corporatist patrons of the GOP were all in favor of the PNAC's oil-grab strategy in Iraq. Match made in hell, eh?

--- I would just like to see as many DU'ers as possible read the article,..... and I don't understand the significance of this "traffic" business which would deter anyone from doing so. If that article had been read by every American in 1999-2000, then Al Gore would be the president today.

10. Free Republic used to tell the truth about Bush -- until the GOP bought them out.
RimJob used to allow people to post articles critical of Bush (which is why Lucianne Goldberg (Lucy the Bat) started her own "protect Smirk" website. But that was back before the RNC's oppo research discovered how influentiial Free Republic had become. Once they realized that, they moved in and bought RimJob's support, on the condidtion that all Bush-bashers be permanently banned. I have for a LONG time believed that the RNC or some similar operation is funding Free Republic surreptitiously. That's why their fund-raising drives always piddle along at 20-30% of what is wanted UNTIL the last day of the fund drive when -- suddenly -- the last 60 or so percent of what is wanted comes in a lump sum. IOW, all the Freepers together can only provide RimJob with 30% of the funding he needs, and yet he always gets all the funding he needs just before the fund drive ends. From where comes this ever-reliable,always sudden last-minute donation? (There's a Freeper fund-raising drive going on right now -- still at the piddling stage. But just watch -- next week sometime, they will suddenly, overnight, raise the last 55-65% of the funds they're after.)

I also believe that Kristin Taylor, Free Republic's ubiquitous frontman in DC, is an under-cover employee of the RNC whose job is to promote Free Republic and its causes at the Capitol. How else can he afford to be at EVERY hearing, every press conference, every Freep gathering and still have time to write articles, LTTE and multiple posts on the Freep board?

12. Thanks for that info!
I had no idea. So it turns out that FR is astroturfed as well.

There might be a dark lesson in that for DU as well. Let's hope we never end up going down that road.
