1. Didn't the freepers explain why unions are bad?
DUers are more likely to explain why unions are good.

2. Unions ARE good! GOOD!
The little guy needs them more than ever now. They have been showing signs of strength lately too. When I see picketers I give them a honk and a thumbs up then I stay far away from their store till all is resolved. And I encourage friends and family to stay away from the strikers businesses too.

3. We could all repeat the freep talking point in unison...
...in that flat drone that children use when repeating multiplication tables in the classroom (except the talking point has no basis in truth):

"It promotes mediocrity in a merit based society."
:eyes:

4. That seems to be the main argument --chase the dream
You TOO could someday be management
You TOO could someday be a rich as me
etc.

Of course those are fine things to strive for but if you are in a job/position that you like or there really is only a slim chance of moving up being in a union is probably good for you.

My father-in-law was a strong union man.

7. Management uses unions as the bogeyman to "explain" why they're
Edited on Tue Apr-03-07 12:55 PM by Lydia Leftcoast
shutting down and moving production overseas.

"Well, you see, if it wasn't for them unions making American workers into spoiled wusses, we wouldn't have to send your job to Cambodia."

Add to that RELENTLESS anti-union propaganda in the Reader's Digest, tabloid papers, and other corporate media ever since I can remember (which is well over 40 years). If you were to believe the more simple-minded media, all unions ever do is featherbed (demand the hiring of unnecessary workers) and call work stoppages for the sheer pleasure of ruining their employer's business.

The kinder gentler talking point is, "Unions may have been necessary in the past when children worked in the coal mines, but we're all civilized and reasonable nowadays."

I DARE anyone who believes that nonsense to go work as an industrial temp for a year (as I did) and see just what indignities non-unionized workers put up with.

5. unions suck....
My union, for example, is negotiating a contract to close the salary gap that separates my workplace from comparable institutions nationwide, thus securing me a significant salary increase over the next three years. Its also maintaining my health benefits, preventing erosion of work-load protections, and keeping my retirement pension safe.

Damn that union!

8. Funny thing about unions
Funny thing about unions-- Fascist Germany, Soviet-style Communist Russia and today's American Conservatives all hate the Unions and use the same talking points to denigrate it.

Another funny thing about unions-- Lech Walesa (in addition to Pope John Paul II) was the catalyst for the end-game of the Eastern Block.

9. Unions make multinational corporations treat their workers fairly and within the law.
That's why they're bad.

10. YES! And isn't it a sad state of affairs that China is more successful at organizing their workers
to unionize against Wal-Mart than those of us in the USA.

If nothing else will convince you that we are being forced to tolerate a corporate M$M, the above truism should be the ticket.

We have become a Corporatocracy and it is NOT a plus for the average hard working, wage slave American.

11. It's simple
as it must be to fit between the ears of bushbot idiots.

Unions are the last outpost of the great red menace which still threatens the very foundations of our freedom in this great land of equal opportunity.

Either that or they undermine the great american creation myth of the rugged individualist, standing tall against all odds, tough enough to go it alone, with god and goodness on his side, doing battle single-handedly against evil forces that would co-opt his individualism, overcoming all who would force him to conform, triumphing over the corruption and decadence of a world where unions seek to undermine the very foundations of our freedom in this great land of equal opportunity.

They're also way too dumb to understand that the rugged individualist is taught to hate unions because millions of dollars in propaganda money has paid over the decades to purchase his opinion. And should he somehow overcome that artificial bias and seek to affiliate with others in like positions, there are thousands of law firms that specialize in union busting, along with right wing courts and an odd but pervasive admiration for american business practices, all lined up to make sure he fails -- in support of the very foundations of our freedom in this great land of equal opportunity.

Or maybe it's just cause Rush told him unions bad, slavery good, unions bad, slavery good, unions bad, slav.....
