Senator McCain needlessly endangered the lives of over 100 US Troops for a Photo Opp
Last week Senator John McCain attempted to sell a rosy picture of the situation in Iraq on CNN with Wolf Blitzer. He failed of course. He got smacked down in grand fashion. It was actually quite embarrassing to watch a man of his former stature demonstrate such a large degree of disconnectedness.

It got worse, much worse. Over the weekend I saw pictures on the major networks of the Senator in Iraq wearing a bullet proof vest, walking in an area outside the green zone, in a market I believe.

This was clearly another stunt in a series of stunts all designed to pull the wool over the American people's eyes. On this matter Senator McCain has clearly "jumped the shark". This was nothing more than a PR stunt which was part of his political agenda to sell an unsubstantiated rosy scenario to the American people.

But the important issue is not his false and failed message, so much as his careless disregard for the troops. The news coverage said there were over 100 soldiers and 5 helicopters on hand for this media spectacle. How dare he endanger the lives of US servicemen and women, and Iraqi civilians so he can have his self serving political photo opp!

Try to imagine the extent of the GOP outrage if Senator Hillary Clinton or Senator Obama or for that matter any other Democratic Candidate had done this.

My question is will the Democrats and the MSM media call him to task for this blatant PR stunt and the more serious danger it posed to US troops?

You can bet your as the GOP machine would lay to waste any Democrat who would dare to pull off such a disgusting pr move, and rightfully so. Hell I'd join them!

2. I would hope they wouldn't.
Would seem a bit silly in my opinion.

11. why do you say that?
I am genuinely curious..

I see that he forced over 100 service men and women to protect him so he could spread more politically grown lies via a pure political stunt.

There is hardly a more irresponsible and shameful political ploy one could undertake while still claiming to "Support the Troops" imo.

12. I just see it differently I guess.
He is a statesmen visiting a war zone to see what is going on, I have no problem with him having escorts while doing it, nor do I see anything hypocritical about it. Especially when its McCain.

If you want to be outraged by it, feel free. I just think it is a silly thing to be outraged about.

13. It's not just that he had escorts, it's that he
specifically said that Baghdad is safe & he could stroll around the market with a cup of coffee (probably Starbucks if we only knew the truth). He can't have it both ways. Either it's safe & he doesn't need an escort & a bullet proof vest or it's not.

14. that's not an answer it's a dodge imo
You don't even address the issue of him having a purely self serving agenda, and risking all those troops in pursuit of it. That is a dispicable act by ANY standard.

What was gained? Nothing. He wanted to make a point and he failed. The fact that he needed 100 troops and 5 fricking helicopters proves he is wrong when he states it is safe there.

end of rant... someone with 107 posts and a "bluedog" handle is not looking for accountability among GOP boot lickers like McCain.

15. I'm also not looking to...
Jump on every little thing a republican may do and get outraged by it and act like they are the worst thing ever.

This is really a non-issue. If you want to make it one, feel free.

6. Second that, Over . . .
I thought his electoral flame-out would be more dramatic, but I think he's just going to be left behind.

His calculation that Bush would have some coattail effect turns out to be faulty. Rather than coattails, Schimpanski is clearly wearing cement overshoes, and anyone embracing him is going to be underwater looking up.

Bye-bye, John, and don't let the curtain of the voting booth wipe your ass on the way out.

8. It could have been also have been 'dumber than a rock' quale's
potatoe moment too.

I just think that that did him in. Running around saying that Baghdad is perfectly safe, guarded by all those troops & wearing a bullet proof vest. Americans have turned against the war & johnny boy just ends up looking like he thinks we're stupid not to notice his entourage.

9. It would be ironic if he got caught in an ied or firefight
and I think he's a bit of a masochist for having the wrong political instincts, thus guaranteeing him of losing the nomination.

10. McCain is a douchebag of epic proportions.
It is pathetic yet amusing to watch him dart into traffic in his desperate effort to resuscitate his failing campaign. He actually thinks becoming more Bush-esque is a good thing. Yikes.
