Obama: Did he say this or didn't he?
the Democratic presidential candidate said in an interview with The Associated Press.

"I don't think that we will see a majority of the Senate vote to cut off funding at this stage."

This looks to be an AP interview, so no need to reference the CNN / Wolf interview thread.

1. I think he is probably right. This WILL NOT HAPPEN.
No need to blame Obama for stating the obvious.

2. Oddly Enough
After reading the interview and reading the wolf interview (previously) I can see the comment that no one wants to play chicken with the troops, but I didn't see that direct quote anywhere.

5. Obama, AP and CNN (Dailykos)
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/4/2/01558/50343

they are equating the CNN interview with the AP interview. They are, apparently, different beasts. There is obviously the CNN appearance, but the AP got the info in its own interview.

14. Obama Did not Say That
He is stating what we all know. The dems will not voting to take away funding. They will not be seen like they were with the Vietnam War.

Therefore Stop trying to smear him. That is one thing we don't need. They already preceive dems as being weak.

7. Yeah he apparently doesn't understand how "Chicken" works...
What he is saying is probably true, but you don't reveal that this early in the game...

11. What did he reveal?
Everybody knows that what he said is the truth. In order for something to be revealed, it has to be a secret to begin with.

8. Oh, good Christ
Like Bush wouldn't know there wouldn't be enough Senate votes to cut off funding? Hell, they barely had enough to insert the timeline for withdrawal. Not to mention, why in the hell would the same people who voted for a timeline of March, 2008 vote to cut off funds now?

If Obama made that statement, he was simply stating the obvious. One can't bargain with something both sides know won't happen.

10. Nah, I think some are just looking for a reason to pile-on
While some might prefer political posturing to the truth, I prefer the latter.

12. I prefer the truth, too: he doesn't have the experience for the job (yet).
Though if he hangs around long enough I'm sure he will, and I'll be happy to vote for him once he does.

13. Fair enough
But I'll take judgment over experience any day.

Plus, the other two candidates currently at the top of the pile don't have much more experience than Obama. That's one reason I don't think we'll see any of the three on the same ticket, should one of them receive the nod. General Clark, Jim Webb, or Richardson would make great VP candidates for any of them.

Not that Richardson is necessarily out of the race...I'm just commenting about how things look today.

16. The truth is
You prefer someone who gives sound bites and lies. If that is for you great. But a lot of us do not want lies and sound bites. It just proves you want the same old thing we have been having for the last 12 years.

15. It is not a Rookie mistake
He told the truth. Maybe just maybe more of them need to do the same instead of giving sound bites. I prefer someone giving the truth instead of giving me an out and out lie. Maybe that is what you prefer. NOT ME!

17. Would Obama state the obvious when standing in defiance with Russia or Iran?
A rookie mistake is right! It wouldn't be in our country's best interest for addressing the problems at hand to have a totally inexperienced freshman negotiator attempting to pilot this country back on course.

In the corporate world of negotiations, he'd be fired for THAT mistake.
