I just heard a speech he made today, on NPR. The pResident actually said "...a Troop in Harm way..." (singular and singular).

OMG! Most High School drop-outs speak better than him, and he "graduated from Yale?!?"

He's such an embarrassment! :banghead:

38. I think they bought his SAT scores, too.
Back in my day -- and I'm a few years younger than the Chump -- people could hire someone to take the SAT for them. The only identification we used then (in my home state of NY) was a paper driver's license, no photo. I've read that Bush got a score over 1200 on the SAT, and I've never been able to believe he could do that on his own, even if his brain was in better shape back then.

19. He got elected because he was protected...
The so-called "librul" media gushed over him 24/7 since the day he announced his candidacy in 1998. I remember a primary debate with several other GOP candidates that he refused to show up to. I thought he was really shooting himself in the foot with that decision (can you imagine a candidate refusing to debate?), but he didn't show up and the corporate media overlooked it.

It's amazing how the corporate media has constantly been on the wrong side of every political debate since His Royal Flatulence was (s)elected!

Edited on Thu Mar-29-07 08:29 PM by butlerd
WILL SOMEBODY (i.e. Bush, anybody else who is out there railing against the Democrats and their "withdrawal language") PLEASE PROVIDE THE REST OF US WITH SOME SORT OF IDEA ABOUT WHAT THEY THINK WE ARE TRYING TO "WIN" OVER IN IRAQ AND HOW LEAVING IS GOING TO BE CONSTRUED AS A "DEFEAT" FOR US PLEASE?

1.) We invaded and occupied Iraq and ensured that they did not have any WMD that might threaten the world
2.) We toppled/captured/killed SH and most of the rest of his regime
3.) We transferred Iraqi sovereignty over to a (supposedly) democratically elected government.

As far as I'm concerned, we have already "won" and should be ready to go home NOW!

WHAT ELSE DOES BUSH AND EVERYBODY ELSE EXPECT THAT WE CAN ACHIEVE OVER THERE SO AS TO "WIN" THE WAR?

WHEN AND UNDER WHAT CIRCUMSTANCES WILL BUSH ET.AL MAKE THE DETERMINATION THAT WE HAVE "WON" IN IRAQ AND CAN SEND MOST OF OUR TROOPS HOME?

INQUIRING FREE-THINKING MINDS WANT TO KNOW!!!!

32. You have to get into his head to understand
When he refers to a "troop", it's a single troops. Harm way is referred as a singular event. Harm's way would refer to multiple peoples.

Hence, you understand that when you put on a pair of pants, you apply a pant to each leg area. These pants are applied into your legs area.

See? It's easy. Just do a virtual lobotomy on your thought process.

41. This thread is embarrassing.
Edited on Fri Mar-30-07 10:22 AM by ieoeja
Main Entry: 1troop
Pronunciation: 'trüp
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle French trope, troupe company, herd, of Germanic origin; akin to Old English thorp, throp village -- more at THORP
1 a : a group of soldiers b : a cavalry unit corresponding to an infantry company c plural : ARMED FORCES, SOLDIERS

Admittedly, the "harm way" should have been "harm's way". But the commentary on here seems to be mostly about Bush's failure to use "troops" instead of "troop". In this instance, * was correct and the OP is wrong.

42. No, He was referring to a Soldier, not a Troop of Solders and not a Troop of Troop!
Maybe you should hear the comment for yourself, and then decide what he was saying, here's the link:

<http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=9213651>

He makes the comment at about 1 minute into the audio.

"...sayin' loud and clear... That ahhh... when we got a troopt in harm way...we expect that troopt ta be fully funded..."

His use of troop is a deliberate effort by the White House Politicians to de-personalize the American "Solders" by referring to them as "Troops" instead of the more personal "Soldier," which makes it much easier for them to send all those "Troops" into an un-winnable Civil War that they caused though their incompetence.

Hey! Maybe that's what that stupid "Army of One" slogan meant!?!

47. I agree - the correct term in the context he used it is "trooper"
The benefit of the doubt would give it to Bush that he meant a troop of soldiers. But he is way past getting the benefit of the doubt - he used up his "benefit of the doubt capital" when he lied us into a war.

46. Hard to say what he actually meant. "Troop" is a singular collective noun - it refers to a group of
soldiers. I suspect he meant ONE soldier, though, in which case the correct form of the same noun would be "trooper". "in harm way" is incorrect no matter what he meant because "harm" is being used as a possesive noun so it would be "harm's".
