Clever Chris Matthews and "Stalwart" Margaret Carlson and Pat Buchanan
go after the Fred Thompson Candidacy!

They LOVE IT! THEY ARE THRILLED BY IT!

Tweety is now becoming disenchanted with Giuliani so he's "morphed over" to Fred Thompson...from Hollywood...who could be the NEW REAGAN!

Pat Buchanan and Margaret Carlson laugh it up ...like they were in a "hangover" from last nights "Whore Media Academy Awards Dinner" where Karl Rove laughed it up with David (Media Whore) Gregory and an African-American who looked like he was dancing in a "Mintrel Show in an old Hollywood Silent from DW Griffith" going along with the whole crowd.

BUT...it was about Fred Thompson as the "charming new Reagan."

(COMMENT: I know that the Media is cynical and that many of us here on DU are cynical, also, but OMG!
I don't see us DU'ers as WHORING the way the MSM and MATTHEWS/BLITZER do!

It's beyond disgusting how the GAME is reported since Roone Arlidge was hired by ABC to "TURN AROUND BORING MEDIA COVERAGE" and make it "more like Sports Coverage."

American People have suffered because of Roone's emphasis on taking out "boring coverage" into the "sports/super star, who's Up and Down and the STATS COVERAGE!

:-(

1. Buchanan's an asshole. Has he apologized for calling Dixie Chicks "stupid bimbos" yet?
Edited on Thu Mar-29-07 05:06 PM by Hissyspit
Since they knew exactly what they were talking about?

2. Tweety is probably impressed that Thompson's wife is 25+ years younger
than Thompson. 2nd wife, of course. Family values, and all that...

7. rumor had it he was.......
On the Republican side, Sen. Fred Thompson is said to have hurt his vice-presidential chances when his name was linked romantically to that of Margaret Carlson. The Time columnist and "Capital Gang" regular is reportedly too liberal for George W. Bush. Thompson's standing was not enhanced when gossips said he was simultaneously involved with another woman.

8. Then Margaret really oughta refrain from commenting or promoting him--
not really an objective issue for her, is it?

12. Amazingly Cruel for Tweety to have her on commenting about him, then.
When the Media starts to eat their own with viciousness...what could be next?

I had no idea about the Carlson/Thompson liason.. But, she's not been on Tweety recently...and I imagine some hip producer thought it would be oh so cute to have her on to wink and nod with Tweety.

It's all about THEM and their "insider jokes" these days. :puke:

10. You are sooooo jaded, KoKo01
It's all show biz...and it's bad show biz at that.

Fred Thompson: the charming new Reagan. That's hillarious. It sounds like they are selling pet food.

11. It may be bad show biz, but it's bad show biz that's worked before.
Both Reagan and Dubya were sold like pet food as plainspoken regular guys who could rise above their intellectual shortcomings and rely on their homespun common sense and smartypants fat cat advisors to get the presidentin' job done.

At least Reagan was the geniune leader of a grassroots political movement and spent his years in California formulating policy and learning to negotiate with friends and opponents. Bush was a phony from the git-go, taking little interest in being governor and spending his entire tenure simply building his resume, giving out school-killing tax cuts, and acting bipartisan in a state with pretty tame Democrats.

I've been thinking for months that the Republicans wouldn't ever be satisfied with any of the existing candidates. Every one of them is either unacceptable to the fundy base or a second-stringer unacceptable to the boardroom cats who write the fat campaign checks. Thompson is the newest flavor of the month. They'll try him out for a while and, if it sells, they'll run him. I want to ridicule the old coot, but the fact is that he may be the real deal as far as packageable candidates go.

We must find a way to counter the threat of this TV-star nominee. He will sell and he very well could win if nominated. The only sane strategy is to fight fire with fire. If the Republicans nominate Fred Thompson, we need to immediately fight back by nominating Patrick Dempsey.

You don't want another FDR, do you? My God, what would that do to America?

13. I have a dream
as a woman formerly from Tennessee....

Where is Fred Thompson from and what distant 2000 election bells are ringing? Think about a picture we have seen of the "angry mob" in Florida banging on the doors to shut down the recount. The picture was eventually blown up, and the identities of the so-called protestors numbered and their names revealed. Their employment was also identified. One angry protestor was identified as an aid to Senator Fred Thompson from Tennessee. Question: what picture am I talking about?

What other dark horse candidate is being rumored as someone who might run, also from Tennessee. We discuss him often, and sometimes extremely fondly, here at the DU. This dark horse has an associaton with the above-discussed picture and possessed a keen interest in identifying members of the "angry mob." Who is that man?

Here is my dream. Two guys from Tennessee, one representing the Republicans, and representing the Democrats seek to capture the presidency in 2008. One will win, and one will not. Picture that! I think you know how my dream ends ....

And, being from Tennessee, I like your dream, but I believe it would end in a nightmare. I had hopes for Tennessee, but after the Ford fiasco, I'm guessing Thompson would beat Gore in this state. That's not to say Gore wouldn't win the presidency. I'm not sure about that against Thompson. My crystal ball is murky - but I don't think Gore would win Tennessee over Thompson.
