Gates: Congress should find way to shut Guantanamo

By Susan Cornwell

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Defense Secretary Robert Gates said
on Thursday Congress should look for ways to close the U.S.
military prison at Guantanamo Bay, but said any solution must
ensure some detainees would remain incarcerated for life.

"Is there a way statutorily to address the concerns about some
of these people who really need to be incarcerated forever
but that doesn't get them involved in a judicial system where
there is the potential of them being released, frankly?" Gates
said at a congressional hearing.

According to Gates, some of the detainees have said they would
attack the United States again if released.

If the United States moves the detainees to some other location,
the federal government must ensure the prisoners cannot find a
legal avenue to freedom.

2. Hey Bob, we have these things called trials, jails and sentences. Some are for life for serious shit
You neo-cons should check out the AMERICAN system of justice. I think you might find it has everything you need. And it is conveniently located RIGHT HERE IN OUR OWN FUCKING COUNTRY!

PLEASE end this Guantanamo disgrace, for fuck's sake! A terrorist could never do as much damage to us as this jail has.

3. Gates must be awfully confident of his position or is he a point man??
This seems to be in direct contradiction to the Chimps position - or is Gates floating out a trial balloon to Dem's hoping that they take the lead on it and create a potential bargaining chip for the WH??

4. BushCo wants Gitmo justice without the stigma of Camp Delta.
They want Congress to establish a legal twilight zone
some place less obvious.

Take the process out of Gitmo without taking Gitmo
out of the process.
