Paranoid Crazy Person Head of GSA

Ha ha, the crazy went to Vassar - Wonkette
We were alerted earlier today that GSA administrator Lurita Doan (obv a fake name, prob from a Pynchon book) was hilariously sketchy while testifying before the Oversight Committee — and, indeed, she was! — but we apparently missed a great bit at the end. A tipster writes:

So the webcast isn’t up yet, but I have it on good authority that mics at the Oversight hearing today picked up Obvious Criminal Lurita Doan telling her lawyer to take her glass of water with them, because she didn’t want the committee getting her fingerprints. It’ll get put up on the website eventually

Our tipster was correct! Ms. Doan apparently mistook her committee hearing for a sitdown with Columbo, and urged one of her people to grab her glass on the way out, saying the committee’s “got me totally paranoid.”

Clip TK tomorrow, unless we forget about it or get bored or something funnier happens.

On March 26, 2007 the Washington Post reported, in a front page story:

Witnesses have told congressional investigators that the chief of the General Services Administration and a deputy in Karl Rove's political affairs office at the White House joined in a videoconference earlier this year with top GSA political appointees, who discussed ways to help Republican candidates. With GSA Administrator Lurita Alexis Doan and up to 40 regional administrators on hand, J. Scott Jennings, the White House's deputy director of political affairs, gave a PowerPoint presentation on Jan. 26 <2007> of polling data about the 2006 elections. When Jennings concluded his presentation to the GSA political appointees, Doan allegedly asked them how they could "help 'our candidates' in the next elections," according to a March 6 letter to Doan from Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-Calif.), chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Waxman said in the letter that one method suggested was using 'targeted public events, such as the opening of federal facilities around the country.'....

The committee is also expected to question Doan about her attempt to give a no-bid job to a friend and professional associate last summer. In addition, the committee plans to look at Waxman's charge that Doan "intervened" in a troubled technology contract with Sun Microsystems that could cost taxpayers millions more than necessary. In the Senate, Doan is facing a similar line of questioning in letters from Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa). Also examining Doan are the GSA's Office of Inspector General and the independent federal Office of Special Counsel, which investigates allegations of Hatch Act violations."<1>

GSA Chief Grilled on GOP Slide Show
By Paul Kiel - March 28, 2007, 1:20 PM

Don't miss this.

Here's a clip from this morning's House government reform committee hearing, investigating General Services Administration Chief Lurita Doan.

In this clip, Rep. Bruce Braley (D-IA) grills her on a PowerPoint presentation (pdf) given by Karl Rove's deputy Scott Jennings to GSA personnel in January. The slides (13 pages) detailed which seats were "House Targets" and which "Senate Targets", which states were "Republican Offense," and which "Republican Defense." After the presentation, Doan reportedly asked other employees how the agency could help "our candidates." The GSA, remember, is the government's procurement agency, in charge of almost $60 billion each year. All of this seems like a clear violation of the Hatch Act, which prohibits using federal resources to aid political parties.

Doan doesn't have a good answer for Braley's questions, stuttering out "I don't recall"s and something about how the meeting was a "brown bag lunch" for the purpose of “team building.” You should "ask Mr. Jennings," she says.

Fake Edit: http://nitpicker.blogspot.com/2007/03/doan-totally-paranoid.html

"Update: I was right. John and company over at Crooks and Liars will have the video up tomorrow, but have done me a solid by allowing me to post a link to their video. (It's a Windows Media File.)"

Lol, that's one short-assed clip but it may go down in history as having spoke volumes to the emergence of guilty consciences amongst administration officials and staff.

Apologies for including all the context, I hope it all can be digested without destroying the savoring of the small nugget that is "the funny".

1. I think she watches The Closer.
The water-left-behind trick was used in one of their episodes.

The tactic of disruption, arrogance and disrespect of the repubs was disgusting.

I think I need to smudge my TV and myself just watching it...
