My vote for the little thread that if tugged will collapse the whole house of cards
It's the one about the 140K payoff for furniture and computers for Cheney that seems as though it became a boat for Cunningham.

This little guy could possibly encompass money laundering, fraud, crony contracts, Attorney-gate, multi-level corruption, White House complicity, you name it.

If we want a simple scandal that America can follow the dots with - this is the one.

If you want the details read the link

1. Thanks for posting this info
This story could easily get lost among all the other scandals of the day. I agree this could be the biggest of them all.

2. He Looks Like A Total Typical GOP Greasebag
But yes, those types sing like canaries when pressed to do so.

I would like to see impeachment for Valerie Plame in particular, but this could be the big one.

4. Yep. It's simple, easy to understand
No fancy, eye-glazing money laundering details, just a straightforward payoff direct from Cheney to a convicted criminal.

Even Faux News couldn't make up a scenario where that would be acceptable.

Now, let's see if it ever makes the light of day in the CM.

7. I took an excerpt, the info without the intro, and sent it to Feinstein's office.
Anyone else who is a constituent of a senator or congressperson in a position to investigate, please do the same.
They actually care when a constituent calls or writes. Teling them that you are from their district makes a difference.

9. The Little Thread That Could!!!!!
Edited on Wed Mar-28-07 09:04 PM by tbyg52
Edited to add:

To recap, the White House awarded a one-month, $140,000 contract to an individual who never held a federal contract. Two weeks after he got paid, that same contractor used a cashier’s check for exactly that amount to buy a boat for a now-imprisoned congressman at a price that the congressman had pre-negotiated.

OMG!!! How much does that sound like Tom DeLay's laundered checks????!!!!!

10. It's like the $250k that Delay filtered through Wash DC.
You'd think they would be smart enough to fudge the numbers a bit. When it's an exact match it sure sounds suspicious.

11. 64K, no make that 140K question - what exactly is the "real" problem with Carol Lam
Our guys have to ask this of Kyle Sampson tomorrow.

What was the "real" problem?

Not the pretend problem. Not the put out there for public consumption problem.

I submit that this WAS the "real" problem.

and what did Cheney get for his (our) $140,000 computer and furniture deal?

18. oh, it's SO obvious, most Americans could follow this!
and then see it came from the WHITE HOUSE. Of course, supporters of GW would say, "well it wasn't the pres who turned the contract money over to duke, he did that on his own", but the fact the white house approved a one month contract for the exact amount of a prearranged price on a boat???? you can't talk your way effectively outta THAT one!

22. agreed- this is the story that will light the imagination of the 87% not paying attention
It amazed me when i heard reported only 13% of people in this country are paying attention to this story- either that's true, which wouldn't surprise me given the general apathy and ignorance fueled by a celebrity gossip media, or it's a deliberate attempt to try to minimize the scandal> This is REAL corruption folks, not the hundreds of petty made-up harassing scandals of the Clinton years, but REAL CORRUPTION, CRONYISM, MISAPPROPRIATION OF PUBLIC FUNDS, LAW BREAKING, and ETHICAL LAPSES that gives transparent motive to BUSH, CHENEY, AND ROVE for the firing of LAM, and a charge of obstruction of justice. THis is not just a story of the firings of a few attorney's because they weren't "loyal" to White House priorities, but OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE!!!! THIS NEEDS MORE ATTENTION!!!!!!! Does anyone know if Leahy is aware of this?

25. Some links to other research on this subject, ...

Here are a couple of threads that tie in closely with the Lam firing, that if the thread is tugged could unravel the whole sordid mess. One can only hope this thread is pulled hard when the Congress questions Sampson. Original research by DWW.

Also of note, if this is proven to reach either Cheney or Bush, the exception to Executive Privilege determined by the Supreme Court during the Nixon review, was that executive privilege does not prevail when testimony is need in a criminal prosecution. That exception would seem to apply here.
