Skewing a poll on AOL always seems like an exercise in futility, especially if you head over to the comments section on the discussion boards. So many people there give the appearence of mindless trolls without a clue as to the real meaning of being an American.

Most posters there would appear to have never taken a class devoted to the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and the other important documents that have figured so prominently in the culture of this country. They seem to long for a monarchy or totalitarian dictatorship fueled by beer and nekkid NASCAR or prayer and burkas.

It is particularly great to hear that from the mayor of the biggest and capital city of one of the reddest states in America.

We usually hear conservatives and fundamentalist religious types talk about a dangerous culture of "do your own thing", or a dangerous culture of selfishness, or a dangerous culture of lawlessness and disregard for authority.
