What did Karl Rove have to do with DOJ's Firings?
DoJ Claimed "No Role" in Rove Aide's Hiring
By Paul Kiel - March 13, 2007, 3:01 PM

Now that Alberto Gonzales has admitted that the Justice Department didn't give accurate information to Congress, it's worth reviewing what they said. Here's an example.

In late February, Richard Hertling, the acting Assitant Attorney General, wrote a letter to Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) in which he claimed that the "Department is not aware of Karl Rove playing any role in the decision to appoint Griffin."

Unfortunately, for the Justice Department, however, in an email outlining the media strategy for defending Griffin's appointment, Gonzales chief of staff Kyle Sampson wrote that getting Tim Griffin appointed was "important to Harriet, Karl, etc." You can read the email here.

Update: Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) had a pretty complete rundown of the false statements made by Justice Department officials to Congress and the press. Transcript below...

From this morning's press conference:

5. I'll believe it when they summon Rove & demand he go under oath.

Sorry, but I'm not going to get overly excited about a bunch of tough talk- even if it is welcome- and some of the toughest I've heard in a while...

The talking sounds great- I'm waiting to see who gets summoned- if it is not someone the average American has heard of-like Rove or Bush himself, then this is all a big nothing-at the most another chink in the armor...

2. So I guess the claim is, Sampson didn't tell anyone. Not even Gonzales.
Chief of staffs sure do a lot of secret things these days...

3. I think
one appointee was a former Rove aide or something. My other best guess is Rove wanted to punish nonconforming Attorneys whom were not going after Democratic scandals prior to the November elections. All those losses and no one to blame. Boo-fucking-hoo.

groomed to take over when Rove and Gonzales are gone.

They just keep coming.

Way too many from Utah - the ones they are sending to Washington aren't too honest, but appear to be extremely conniving and manipulative.

Attended and graduated from the University of Rovian with a grant from Atwater which is in trust through a Richard Mellon-Scaife type figure? Or maybe Carlyle.
