CLARK: The Danger of Silence
From my inbox:

Dear Scott,

Silence.

That is what worries me. With every passing day that the administration won't talk to Iran, we come closer to an Iranian nuclear weapon, and the time at which the decision must be made whether or not the administration will use its military option.

In today's video blog, Jon Soltz, chairman of VoteVets.org, and I discuss the serious consequences of using military force against Iran -- the impact on our men and women in uniform, U.S. influence in the region, and the stability of the Middle East.

Watch the video blog today!

Then forward this message to everyone you know. Encourage them to sign our petition to George W. Bush to stop war with Iran today!

The Bush Administration may refuse to have direct talks with Iran, but we cannot remain silent.

An attack on Iran will put additional strain on our already overextended military. It could well affect the United States' ability to extricate our forces from Iraq, as our troops will likely face even more attacks on the ground. And there will be potential for hostilities on American embassies abroad, a hike in oil prices, and an increased likelihood of terrorist attacks wherever Hizballah has active cells. You just don't know, and quite frankly, I don't want us to find out.

I need you to stand with me today.

Thank you for being one of over 28,000 people who have made your voices heard and signed our petition to George W. Bush. Take a moment now to watch the latest video blog from StopIranWar.com. And then forward this message to everyone you know.

Your efforts are having an impact. The media is starting to pay attention. Democratic leaders in Washington are starting to act. But we can't rest now. We cannot remain silent.

Thank you for your efforts.

Sincerely,

Wes Clark

1. I remember when Clark stated
in September of 2002...."all the warning signs should be flashing. There are unintended consequences when force is used."

Couple that with Sy Hersh's article on the Iran Plans, and understand that just cause something ain't happened, doesn't mean that it won't! So I'm not going to wait till after the fact to figure out what I could have done in hindsight. Leading means being serious about this...serious like a heart attack.

2. I'm sending this around
At my Dem. committee meeting last night we talked about this effort. This video is a great way to get the word out. If everyone did just a little to spread the word, we could put the kind of pressure on bush that even that madman couldn't ignore. Well, he might try, but if we also use the link to contact our congress critters, especially the republicans, they won't like the handwriting in the polls.

3. Ironic, isn't it........?
how much silence there is on this even here!

I'm bookmarking all of these Iran posts for the future, just like I did the Darfur posts before it became a "cause celebre". Then I'll be able to tell those who "come out" on it after the shit hits the fan to kiss my ass. They were part of the problem.

4. It is easier to be angry over a war after it starts than work to prevent one happening
Edited on Wed Mar-07-07 10:02 PM by Tom Rinaldo
Honestly sometimes I think that must be it. And yeah I am willing to stoop to guilt trips when it comes to something like stopping the next retaliatory cycle of violence that likely will consume even more lives and bankrupt America for a generation to come.

Everyday I see all the angry posts about Iraq. Well there is a lot to be angry about about Iraq, I know that. But this time we have been given fair warning. This time we have been given the leadership and the tools needed to keep another Iraq from happening. This time we have a chance to feel relieved over a horror averted, rather than anger over a catastrophe entered.

I am among those who have been angry with many of our Democratic leaders over the invasion of Iraq that they should have prevented. This time I will be angry with my fellow activists if we sit back and allow growing tensions between the Bush Administration and Iran to spin out of control and into another war. We still have time to prevent this, and we should.

5. I marched and wrote letters etc....during the build up to the Iraq war......
and so I have no clue of what it must feel like to be behind the eight ball on War and peace. I only know that if anyone says sorry, or "if I would have known", etc.....I'm gonna roll my eyes and say, "not this time buddy!"...
