Newly svelte Gov. Bill Richardson hits the road

Gov. Bill Richardson spoke at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, on March 2.

Wednesday, March 7, 2007

AP -- {snip}

Most recently, the slimmer and trimmer governor was in Iowa, looking like he didn't partake in much hearty Midwestern fare.

On Monday, he signed two renewable energy bills in front of reporters. That night, he went to a fund-raiser at a private home in Albuquerque. His campaign declined to say how much he raised.

On Tuesday, he held a news conference to talk about how the state can better help its veterans.

Among other things, Richardson wants $2.5 million to help veterans service centers and tele-health programs across the state.

"In the last week, the American people have been shocked and embarrassed by the horrendous conditions of facilities serving American soldiers wounded in Afghanistan and Iraq," the second-term governor said in a statement.

5. He's a nice looking guy now that little bit ow weight is gone. I still say we should keep an eye on
him. I think there is a very real possibility of his coming from behind and being the nominee.

I support Hillary, but I'm afraid she is not going to make it. Media outweighs money, and they don't like her. They will tear up whoever the nominee is, but not as badly as her. Sigh! But having said that, I will be quite happy with Richardson.

12. He looks good but less jolly than before
It's a shame, really, he's forced to do this for the cameras. People are so superficial when it comes to politicians. Here's a guy with a strong record, smart and personable, and he's gotta be skinny, too. Meh.

13. I just hope he isn't doing anything "weird" to take of the pounds!
This was a picture you posted of him last week in where he easily weight 15 more pounds. That's a pretty drastic reduction in just 1 week! that's not good, regardless of the intent!

This is a pic from 3/1/07 - So I'm just saying..... a pound a week is advisable. Anymore that is as noticeable as comparing the photo you've just offered and last week's photos is questionable, at the very least!

16. Prediction: Richardson will past Edwards and possibly Obama by next year
he's the only Governor in the race and has more experience than Hillary Obama and Edwards put together. i predict he will out shine Edwards and Hillary at the April debate

17. Probably the best candidate
Although I'm a big Gore supporter for '08, Richardson is certainly the best candidate in the race in my opinion. Just look at it from a strategic standpoint:
- The west has been frequently stated as the next big area of the country.
- Regardless of how you feel about them, all the other candidates have too many votes that they have made in congress that can be attacked. Richardson doesn't have to explain why he did, or didn't, vote for any issue that came up in Congress (unless you want to go back to 1997).
- He obviously has great experience both at not only a national level (governor, DNC Chair) but an international level (UN Ambassador)

At the very least, he has to be the running mate of whomever gets the nod. A Gore-Richardson team would be a dream.
Here is what the democrats have to consider when looking at presidential candidates: look at where the past Presidents have come from:
- George W. Bush - Governor
- Bill Clinton - Governor
- George H.W. Bush - VP
- Reagan - Governor
- Carter - Governor
- Ford - VP (I guess this one doesn't count since he wasn't voted in)
- Nixon - VP
- LBJ - VP
You have to go all the way back to Kennedy to find a candidate to who went straight from Congress to President. Although some of the above were Congressmen, they had taken other offices (VP or Governor) since then.

Granted 2008 is vastly different than even 2004 was, but maybe we need to look toward governors or VPs. Hmmm, does that remind you of any two people?

22. A ticket that looks like America--hey it could work!
I mean who do YOU want as president. Someone who's too busy doing the people's business to spend a lot of time in the gym or on his mountain bike or a fitness nut who's more obsessed with aerobic exercise than doing things like, oh, I don't know, running the country.

Bill Clinton (preheart attack) was a chubster and he did pretty good as president.

21. Tweety said earlier that bush should fire cheney and appoint
Richardson as his new VP, in an effort at bipartisanship.

Yeah, that's gonna happen, and yeah, Richardson will jump at that opportunity.
:sarcasm: (as if I need to put in the dripping sarcasm)
