THEY SIMPLY FORGOT
THEY SIMPLY FORGOT
By Nancy Greggs

I have to say that I was quite shocked to hear the Libby verdict today – shocked because I can’t believe the jury didn’t buy the forgetfulness defense.

It’s especially surprising in these times, when it’s so easy to see how people in high places can be so prone to forgetfulness:

The powers-that-be who included the ‘sixteen words’ in the State of the Union speech weren’t trying to mislead the American people. They SIMPLY FORGOT they’d been told by their own intelligence people that the statement was a lie.

Condi Rice didn’t fail in her duties when she didn’t react to being told, in no uncertain terms, that ‘terrorist chatter’ was at an alarming volume just prior to September 11, 2001. She just SIMPLY FORGOT to pass the information along.

Donald Rumsfeld didn’t send our troops into harm’s way with insufficient equipment. He just SIMPLY FORGOT they might need things like body armor and vehicle armor.

The Administration didn’t continue to take advice from their PNAC buddies like Perle, Wolfowitz and Kristol because they have their own agenda. They SIMPLY FORGOT that these guys have been completely wrong in their predictions about everything.

Bush didn’t party in Arizona and California while people were dying in NOLA because he is insensitive. His staff SIMPLY FORGOT to tell him that the worst natural disaster to hit the US had just happened.

Dick Cheney didn’t lie when he denied having said that the ties between Hussein and Al Qaeda had been ‘pretty much confirmed’. He SIMPLY FORGOT he’d said it just days before. He also didn’t bother to alert the WH that he’d shot a man in the face over the weekend – he just SIMPLY FORGOT.

This Administration didn’t set out to house our returning wounded veterans in deplorable conditions, along with insufficient staff to meet the administrative needs – they just SIMPLY FORGOT that two wars being waged simultaneously would mean an increase in returning soldiers who would need expedient and easily-accessed care.

Cheney never used his influence to ensure that Halliburton got no-bid contracts, one after the other. He SIMPLY FORGOT that he used to work there, and still owned a shit-pile of shares in the company.

Paul Bremer and the gang didn’t deliberately look the other way while tons of cash went missing in Iraq. They SIMPLY FORGOT they were supposed to keep track of it.

The elected GOP reps who gave sweetheart deals to Big Oil and Big Pharma didn’t intend to ignore the best interests of their constituents. They SIMPLY FORGOT who their constituents were.

The MSM didn’t ignore the stories about election fraud in Ohio in 2004. They SIMPLY FORGOT there had been an election.

The architects of the War in Iraq didn’t mean to kill hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians. They SIMPLY FORGOT they’d still be living in the country when the war took place.

BushCo didn’t mean to run roughshod over the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Geneva Conventions, the FISA court, etc. They SIMPLY FORGOT the United States is supposed to be a democracy.

The Administration didn’t set out to run up the national debt. They SIMPLY FORGOT that borrowed money has to be repaid – with interest.

The GOP majority never intended for vital social programs to be gutted. They SIMPLY FORGOT that not everyone in the country is a tax-exempt billionaire.

Of course, the ultimate example of forgetfulness will always be the fact that George W. Bush didn’t sit reading My Pet Goat due to being paralyzed by fear, or out of abject stupidity because he didn’t know what to do. Yes, he’d been told that the United States was under attack – he just SIMPLY FORGOT.

Ironic how the GOP symbol is the elephant, who allegedly never forgets. More ironic is the fact that it is the Democratic donkey who will be ensuring that no one forgets the crimes of the Republicans – faulty memories and all.

8. well - I think you should reconsider your position - you are being a bit harsh
According to sean inSanity last night, this is just a travesty of justice - to convict this innocent man simply because he forgot.

Liberals are ruining this country.

There was no crime that led scooter to the grand jury. And when he testified about this lack of a crime, his faulty memory caused his lies . . . . er, his misstatements.

What's the harm???
