Chris Matthews appreciation thread.
(deep breath)

Matthews closed his show tonight with his own "special comment", speaking directly to the camera, using concrete language to say Libby lied, this is about the lies that took us to war, and this won't all be over until questions about the war are answered.

Though he has often irritated me with his tendency to interrupt guests and concentrate on horse-race politics, he deserves major props for his behavior throughout the Plame scandal and the reporting of it.

Chris, tonight I raise a glass to you. :toast:

1. I do, too, especially after hearing Scarborough earlier on Tucker.

He thinks Libby should be pardoned.:wtf:

Matthews might stay on this horse and ride it into the sunset. He's as angry as we are.

:toast: :hi:

6. Yep.
He's done a heck of a good job. He was the first person that Wilson talks about in his book, because of his call warning Wilson about Eove's call. His reporting made the OVP furious. He deserves our respect for his contributions on the Plame scandal and Libby case.

7. He hates the war. He was SHOCKED with a capital S when it was
clear that Bush will attack Iran if he can. He also was part of the process in that Cheney had transcripts of his show made and ranted why Matthews would keep on the story. Good job, Chris.

9. Thank you
I didn't know that. I sometimes think he doesn't think it's his job to make the case for the political parties, and consequently doesn't always report facts as he really knows them. Maybe if he were a anchor type reporter, he'd have done a better job these last few years. Then again, I do not know where his little man crushes come from either, like the one he appears to have with Giuliani. After getting burned by Bush, you'd think he'd have learned his lesson about going after 'macho men'.

11. Kudos to Chris. I wish he had asked more questions
several years ago during the run-up to this mess. I think he and other journalists/reporters/interviewers didn't do their jobs back then.

Although I don't really care for Matthews (since he hates the Clinton's) but Russert hates him so I'm cool with that. :)

13. I'm adding my thanks to Chris Matthews
he confuses me so, but at heart he must be a decent guy - anyone who had the guts to call Joe Wilson and tell him he'd been told his wife was fair game and "you can quote me on that", has guts I think. He knew he was messing with powerful people.

15. He won't be invited to the Christmas Parties anymore....
But I do believe that Matthews, being part of this story, has self-serving historical interests in-sight.

20. He may, but at the time he told Joe Wilson he could quote him
he had no idea how it would turn out, so I give him some credit for that. It would have been much easier and safer for him to not say anything at all. I give credit where it's due, and I think that took guts.

21. It took guts. The guy has a love for America,
and he was pissed off. He knew a mafia-like tactic when he sees it, and he felt it was wrong.

So Chris, thanks for making that phone call. Yer a stand-up guy.

14. Pffft. No thanks...

I have a LONG memory. I remember Matthews and his Bush-kissing ways. Mission Accomplished, "real people like real guys as President".. his kiss-ups and sycophancies are legion in number.

The ONLY atonement Matthews can make is a public, on-air apology and resignation.

Edited on Wed Mar-07-07 05:43 AM by Lasher
Tweety went on and on, obsessing how great Junior looked in his pilot and cowboy "costumes".

Edit: Here are some things Tweety has said

On the 'Mission Accomplished' carrier landing:

"What's the importance of the president's amazing display of leadership tonight?"

"And that's the president looking very much like a jet, you know, a high-flying jet star. A guy who is a jet pilot. Has been in the past when he was younger, obviously."

"He won the war. He was an effective commander. Everybody recognizes that, I believe, except a few critics."

"Here's a president who's really nonverbal. He's like Eisenhower. He looks great in a military uniform. He looks great in that cowboy costume he wears when he goes West. I remember him standing at that fence with Colin Powell. Was the best picture in the 2000 campaign?"

"The president there — look at this guy! We're watching him. He looks like he flew the plane. He only flew it as a passenger, but he's flown..."

"He looks for real. What is it about the commander in chief role, the hat that he does wear, that makes him — I mean, he seems like — he didn't fight in a war, but he looks like he does."

And if the contents of your stomach have not yet been fully ejected:

"Bush sometimes glimmers with sunny nobility."

"Everybody sort of likes the president, except for the real whack-jobs ..."

Before Bush had even delivered his November 30 speech at the U.S. Naval Academy, Matthews used variations of the word "brilliant" twice to describe it, while deriding Democratic critics of the Iraq war as "carpers and complainers."

Matthews on the filibuster debate: Democrats are "just sort of pouting and bitching."

Matthews falsely attacked Wilson over Niger trip's genesis.

Matthews mischaracterized Democratic efforts to complete the Senate Intelligence Committee's Phase II report as "disingenuous," "using crocodile tears."

This was way over the top. Freaked me out. If Junior had been on Hardball during 2003 I'm pretty sure Tweety would have given him a blowjob right there on the set.

18. Yes kudos to Mr. Matthews
The man may be a asshold but he does have shades of brillence and he was sopt on on what he said.

I do believe that Libby should be pardoned cause in my mind he's not the real criminal in this game, it's Cheney he's the one who should be rotting in jail right now.

28. It wasn't a riveting editorial, unless you knew that it wasn't his style.
He normally checks out both sides, is chummy with both sides, and tries to see who's ahead and who's playing catch up.

But tonight he looked right at the camera to say, Now we know that what was charged was true, and that everything left unsaid is worth saying.

The fact that he pissed off the OVP in the first place probably means that I'm the one playing catch up here, at least in this respect.

30. I don't think so!
So Chris finally did his job for the big bucks he gets.....bout time!

Last I heard, one had to give 120% before being recognized as doing better than what should be expected.

Chris Matthews is more like 35% OK. But that ain't good enough. Better than Russert's 10% OK....but considering how low we've had to make our standards, I ain't joining no hoorah parade in somebody performing at the minimum requirement level!

Talk to me about Dana Priest and Seymour Hersh, and then I'll be willing to get into the receiving line to congratulate some courage and greatness.
