Gore will wait until the summer to decide
He will wait until the summer, and determine whether Obamania is real or not. If Obama looks strong and is functioning as a clearly viable opponent to Hillary, then Gore will stay out. My 2 cents.

1. Gore running or not will have a major impact on this election.
Everything changes when Gore makes a firm announcement. So far, he hasn't really ruled out running, while he hasn't said that he will, either. I think it's wise that he waits, although it will be hard on a lot of us who want to know one way or the other.

2. If Obama continues his meteoric rise, then Gore will recede.
ala Gore's John the Baptist to Obama's Christ.

8. I'm not so sure about that. I'm not convinced that Barack has that much influence with Al.
And he and Hillary may self destruct each other as well if they don't straighten up. We'll have to see. The waiting will become increasingly difficult as the Summer wears on.

9. It's clear to me. Gore = John the Baptist, Obama = Christ.

3. Gore is keeping his options open
I agree that Al Gore is the best qualified person for the Presidency, in terms of his experience, knowledge, intelligence and judgement.

As to the question of whether he will run -- I think Al Gore is keeping his options open right now, watching how the "pre-season" goes. I don't think he yet knows what he will do.

There is no hurry for Gore to enter the race for 2008.

Gore is doing a great job raising public awareness about the climate crisis. Winning an Oscar means that even more people will hopefully see "An Inconvenient Truth". He will testify at a Congressional Hearing on March 21st.

Gore is also busy working on his next book "The Assault on Reason" - to be published in May. The theme of this book - why we need better decision-making in government - is very timely (whether he runs or not).

Gore is also leading "Live Earth" with concerts in 7 cities across the globe on 7/7/07 -- all with the aim of raising awareness and pushing for action to address the climate crisis.

Depending on how things pan out, and the reaction to his book, Gore can consider his situation over the summer and announce his decision (or if you prefer - "change his mind") sometime in the fall.

Unless and until Gore endorses another candidate, we have to assume that he is keeping his options open. So it is too soon for those of us who prefer Gore to switch our allegiance.

Let's all find ways to show our support for Al Gore! :patriot:

7. I dont know...
while I agree that Gore coming in would be a good thing, I just don't see it guys. I like Gore probably about as much as many do here, I just see him wanting to stay clear of all the ugliness that can happen during a national campaign. He's had his share of this stuff, that's for sure. I think he is enjoying his life as it is, and he can see that he is making a REAL measureable difference in his noble cause. I see Pres. Gore continuing his global work for that cause.

Like I said, if he jumps in, more power to him. I just don't think he wants to get involved in the revolving process. In fact, I'd give pretty good odds that he won't.

10. You may be right
Since last Sunday night I am starting to have major doubts about my "dream candidate".

If he was thinking about maybe running, why would he decide to make a big joke about announcing his candidacy? It's like he is making fun of all of us who have been speculating about his intentions.

Maybe he feels more comfortable with all the great work he is doing now?

In any case - I hope we will all continue to support his efforts. :)

11. Don't forget the Nobel Peace Prize...
...the winner of which will be announced in mid-October. That would be another great addition to his resume.

4. Here's another scenario for summer being a good time...
Imagine a really hot summer across the country, everyday on the news they'll be telling us about the heatwave, telling us not just the heat, but the "heat index" (the most pointless stat have).People already connect just about every weather event as being related to global warming, and the heat would be the most blatant example to illustrate the point.

And who's the face of the fight against it right now?

6. That attitude, though unrealistic in that one man wont "save us",definately plays a factor
Count on it.

He's a politician. Nobody has any doubt about that. He has us hoping and praying that he'll run and he has the GOP anxiety meter about to bust. All the GOP has is McCain and Giuliani (So far). He would get the nomination and he would win the general election and he knows that. There's no way he doesn't run--it just wouldn't make any sense.
