SPTimes Buzz Blog: Gore's longtime friend, top fundraiser, Mitchell Berger says he's not running
For what it's worth...

Count Gore Out

As Al Gore makes comes to Miami for his first public appearance since winning his Oscar, the Buzz is inevitable: Will the winner of the '00 popular vote winner jump into the president race?

Not gonna happen, says his longtime friend and top fundraiser Mitchell Berger of Fort Lauderdale. Berger, a big John Edwards supporter, has talked to Gore about that repeatedly and says Gore has been perfectly clear he's staying out.

"Could people please understand that Al Gore thinks that the world's climate is collapsing and he is dedicating every ounce of his energy to do something about that,'' Berger said.

2. He's not running YET. All he has to do is say that he won't run if he really isn't going
to run.

4. This is really starting to wear me out...
Edited on Wed Feb-28-07 08:01 PM by Bicoastal
Following the rumor mill surrounding Gore's probably/probably not candidacy is really starting to make me feel really exausted, emotionally speaking. Probably because the race for the White House started waaaaaay to early this time around.

I really don't think it's being coy anymore--I think he really didn't plan to run, BUT he may allow himself to be drafted if Hillary looks unbeatable. Still, you and I know both know that if he does throw his hat into the ring, it will be many many months from now. And that just makes me feel tired--if only because I really really want him to run.

And if that's not bad enough, Grand Theft Auto 4 doesn't come out 'til October. <sigh>

15. Hmmmm.....
"It's seems like it's obvious He's not running... nothing indicates otherwise."

I suppose I was saying that about Barack Obama a year ago when he was saying he wasn't running for the Presidency in 2008 ;)

7. I don't think we can count Gore out unless and until
he issues a statement to the effect that he is not a candidate, will not become a candidate, and will not allow himself to be drafted as a candidate. The day he makes that statement, I'll believe he's not running. Until then, he is a potential candidate.

8. "Gore has absented himself from the '08 race with a deliberately provisional explanation."
From the 3.5.07 issue of the New Yorker...

For the moment, Gore has absented himself from the 2008 Presidential race with a deliberately provisional explanation: He has no plans to be a candidate. He doesn’t expect to be a candidate. (Or, as he satirized his language for Jay Leno when talking about his future in the movies, “I just want to clarify: I have no plans to do a nude scene. I have no intention to do a nude scene. I don’t expect to do a nude scene. But I haven’t made a Shermanesque statement about it.”)

9. I think it's about the spotlight for his issue -
most of the time when the press writes about Gore it goes like this: blah blah blah Gore blah blah blah Global Warming blah blah blah will he run for president?

The moment he removes that question of running in '08, does anyone seriously think the media is still going to cover his global warming initiatives like they are now? He's doing the best thing he can to keep this ultra-important issue in the spotlight.

Also he probably hasn't decided he'll never run for anything. And like he says, he probably doesn't expect to; but who Out There dictates that he *must* rule it out? Al is doing right by Al, and right by the planet. Good for him. :)

11. He went to Vietnam even though he didn't have to. Why? Because that's how he is - selfless.
Again, when you consider the state of our country and the world, he will see that he is the one who can change things, and be more effective as chief executive than he can be doing anything else.

And also, the ambitious part of him must realize that if he doesn't run, he would be leaving behind the chance of a lifetime. I just think eventually, he won't be able to resist the pull. Hopefully. :D

12. I guess when the man does NOT run...people will become convinced???
geeze....how many times can the man say...I am not running...how many different words does he have to use...how many different ways does he have to say it??? how many languages should he say it in....to me, when a man says....there is nothing that would make me run for political office again, or....I have NO intention of running for political office again...that says he is NOT running, and we need to get over it..in spite of the fact that he's a good guy, and we'd love to have him......I still feel that what he wants, should matter...I don't believe he is being coy at all, and would be disappointed in him, if he is...(of course I will stand corrected, if I am misinterpreting his intentions)

That won't stop people around here tho from creating 150,000 topics on the possibilities of his run, the right time, what this or that really means, the weather affecting his chances, etc. It's a little rediculous to have all of these excellent candidates (save Hillary, lol) to choose from, a chance for new blood, a new direction, a new start, and people still can't find one that they are truly happy with, it's disturbing.

I don't get it. :(

14. It probably won't stop until the first few primaries are over.
Anytime Gore says he's not planning on running, someone posts a thread declaring, "HE'S RUNNING!"

I'll stick with the ones who have already declared their run.
