Al Gore is not mulling it over,
Edited on Wed Feb-28-07 12:25 AM by Labors of Hercules
Paying close attention to his words and actions, and the amazing opportunities he is using to send his powerful agenda to the people in ways he does not appear to control... I can't help but be awed by his timing, his instincts, and his quiet intellect consistently working toward real solutions.

And I believe he knows that for him to assume the presidency is in the best interest of us all.

He is not seeking the oval office in 2008 because he does not need to... He will let us know when it is time to stand by him, and we will win.

20. Surely indeed
Is there any other candidate that the entire blogosphere would stand by in unison other than Al Gore? I don't see another candidate (besides Obama, but that would be after the fact if he wins the nomination). The ENTIRE blogosphere would rally behind Gore and would push him to a decisive victory.

8. Gore is keeping his options open
If you are saying it's a sure thing he will enter the race and seek the Dem nomination - I don't agree.

I would say there is a real chance that Gore might decide to enter the race sometime between late August and early November. Today I would put that chance somewhere in the range between 20% and 35%. We can help to make it more likely by supporting initiatives like www.draftgore.com

There is no hurry for Gore to enter the race for 2008. I think he is keeping his options open right now, watching how the "pre-season" goes. I don't think he yet knows what he will do.

Gore is doing a great job raising public awareness about the climate crisis. Winning an Oscar means that even more people will hopefully see "An Inconvenient Truth". Gore will also testify at a Congressional Hearing on March 21st. He is leading "Live Earth": a 24-hour event with concerts in 7 cities across the globe on 7/7/07.

Gore is also busy working on his next book "The Assault on Reason" - to be published in May. The theme of this book - why we need better decision-making in government - is very timely (whether he runs or not).

Depending on how things pan out, and the reaction to his book, Gore can consider his situation over the summer and announce his decision (or if you prefer - "change his mind") sometime in the fall.

Let's all find ways to show our support for Al Gore! :patriot:

15. I see him making options happen...
We know he is experienced, extremely intelligent, and has said if he were to run again he would do it his own way. That's what he is doing. I really don't think he is just keeping options open, but carrying out an well-planned strategy that he knows will work.

22. I didn't think Gore would run, but I'm starting to think otherwise...
because of the very thing you suggest. Despite the fact that he hasn't said he's in, he seems to be carefully crafting a set of events and happenings that will keep his name in the news regardless of whether he steps into the race, the book in May and the concert in July being the most obvious examples.

10. Things have aligned rather nicely for Gore, let's see if the stars continue to line up.
1. It is now an article of faith in the Democratic Party that Gore was robbed in 2000 and that the world would have been a better place if the Supreme Court had not anointed George W. Bush President.

2. He came out forcefully against the Iraq war before it was popular.

3. One of his very best friends in politics, a guy he personally helped convince to remain a Democrat, became Chairman of the Democratic Party.

4. "An Inconvenient Truth" introduced Americans to the "Real" Al Gore--who turns out to be the science teacher that most of us could only have dreamed of.

5. A series of TV appearances showed Americans an Al Gore who is hip, funny and yeah, the sort of guy you'd like to have a beer with.

6. He's been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

7. Gore's Oscar moment--before millions of people who would never, ever, go to see something like "An Inconvenient Truth". The fury of the right wing attack on him shows that they are, indeed, scared.

In order for Gore to decide to get into the race the following things would have to fall in place.

1. The likely Democratic nominee would have to be unacceptable to Al Gore. I think that Gore would be perfectly OK with say, Bill Richardson (very green) but hostile to Clinton. He may feel that Edwards & Obama lack experience but that may not be enough to get him in the race. Prediction: If Clinton's on top Gore gets in. If Richardson catches fire, Gore stays home. If Obama or Edwards are leading, it's hard to say which way Gore jumps.

2. The likely nominee would also have to leave large numbers of pro-Gore Democrats very deeply dissatisfied.

3. Gore's "Good Press" would have to continue. The concert series he's planning, the new book and the Nobel nomination will keep him out in front of the media. On the other hand the right wing are sharpening their attacks.

19. Are you sure he isn't making the alignment happen?
I just think we're not giving Gore enough credit for the leadership and skill he is demonstrating... It is not mere conjecture to say more than the stars aren't just aligning in his favor, he is lining them up himself!

24. He very well may be doing so.
Al Gore is a smart man and knows how and when to pull the levers.

To recap, much to the chagrin of Hillary Clinton, he has his good buddy Howard Dean heading the DNC. He's appearing as the head of a movement, something more than a politician--always a good thing. He gets to hang out with the stars and thus is introduced to people who ordinary wouldn't look twice at a politician and can show the smart, humorous side of his personality.

If he's doing this on purpose to make a run for president it's a brilliant strategy.

If this is his plan, it's brilliant

13. I don't think he would "tease" us like he did at the Oscars if he really and truly did not plan to r
run. He is a politician and knows the effect of the pretending to announce would have on everybody. I don't thin he would have done it if running were not out there somewhere.

17. When he endorses someone else.
That's what I'm waiting for. He did endorse in 04 and I have no doubt he'll endorse this year as well if he does not run, and I will certainly give his endorsement extra consideration.

18. When he endorses someone else
or if he makes a definitive and unambiguous statement that he has ruled out running.

As the situation stands, I can keep waiting until Sunday November 4th, 2007.

That will be exactly one year before the general election, and 10 weeks before the Iowa caucuses.

If Gore has not entered the race by Monday November 5th, I might start looking for another candidate.
