Chapel Hill, North Carolina Senator John Edwards released the following statement today about the announcement by Governor Tom Vilsack that he will no longer seek the Democratic nomination for President in 2008.

"Tom Vilsack is a terrific human being and one of the genuine treasures of our Party, so it is our loss more than his that he has chosen to end his campaign for president. His record as a leader on critical issues including education, health care, and energy independence makes one thing very clear: Tom has never forgotten where he came from or the people he serves. He is a powerful voice for the people of Iowa and America, and I am proud to call him a friend. Elizabeth and I wish Tom, Christie and their entire family the very best life can offer and look forward to working with them in the years ahead to build a country that lives up to its great promise."

1. Pity
Didn't really care much for Vilsack as a Presidential candidate, but the fact he was demanding Congress cut off funds for this war meant he should have at least stuck around awhile

2. Were I an Iowan, it would matter to me that folks from other places felt
that way about one of my neighbors, and spoke that graciously about him and his family.

I heard Vilsack speak only a very few times but I agree with Edwards that the loss of a good mind and heart from the campaign lessens everybody.

5. Very classy by Edwards.
He had a similar statement about Senator Kerry when he decided not to run. I'm pleased that Edwards is being very gracious, and kind. Could this be his way of saying he'd like Vilsack's endorsement? I mean, Edwards is doing wonderful in Iowa polls. Vilsack's endorsement would help Edward's strategy to lead in Iowa!! If he could get Vilsack out on the campaign trail to stump for him, even better!! Who knows?!?

Either way, classy statement by Senator Edwards!!

6. Clinton and Obama are going to flame out fast
they are both idiots for getting sucked into the mud so fast.

It is definitely a classy statement. Looks like he gets the message. We are sick of that shit.

Edwards will have it by default, if you-know-who doesn't step in.

7. Maybe he will be nominated for Vice President
I really like him, personally and have read many nice things about his work. We need people like him
to represent us.
