Strategically speaking......(Al Gore)
If Al Gore decides to run what would be the best time to throw his name out there? If he waits then the other candidates and their supporters will already have torn each other apart. He could swoop in and be a breath of fresh air. On the other hand, waiting too long could divide the party because folks will be so invested in their candidates. If he were to jump in now would he be deflated by the time the nomination came around or would he emerge as the ulitmate choice? Well who knows....Just some random thoughts and hopes I suppose, but wouldn't it be great to have a candidate that we all could scream about?

1. All about fundraising.
There is a limited amount of donation money to be had, so if he doesn't want people to be tapped out from donating to other candidates, then he has to announce soon.

4. Supposedly He Has His Own $$$
He has lots to spend, especially if it ends up being a shorter campaign for him, it won't cost as much.

Also, he has name recognition, so there isn't that hurdle to overcome. He's not a relative unknown like someone like Obama.

2. Not too early.
If I were his advisor, I'd tell him that Fall is the time, maybe late fall. In the meantime, I'd be quietly and behind the scenes building an organization. When the time comes, I'd want to simply flip a switch and everything would go into high gear.

BTW, the organization should include a "War Room" ala the Clinton campaign, only without that mean fool, Carville.

Gore's smart. If he's gonna run, it's going to be a unique campaign, different from any other campaign ever run. It would focus on on-line resources and be inherently grass roots. The idea is to ramp up *quickly*, to utterly and immediately sieze the media's attention, never letting up. Something like a Web-hosted mutlimedia bus tour would be a good thing. There's no end to new modes and methods which could be exploited.

During the 2000 election the Repukes said that Gore was a liar when he "claimed that he invented the Internet". In the 2008 election, Gore can show everybody how to re-invent the Internet-based campaign to take the campaign to the people.

Can he win? I think he can sweep the whole thing. Can he lose? Yes, if he gets another Donna Brazille, he can lose it all.

Also, rumor has it in the pundit-sphere, Gore could pretty much finance himself.

5. A month after the Repukes officially run Jeb Bush or Pataki
Edited on Fri Feb-23-07 10:46 AM by PhilipShore
Once the big dogs (Jeb Bush or Pataki) for the Repukes start running; then around a month after - or soon after Hillary's numbers go below Jeb Bush or Pataki (If Pataki runs, that will be excellent for Gore because - Pataki will win against Hillary in New York, and the polls will reflect that soon -- then even the DLC will defect to Gore).

Then Gore jumps in with a Gore/Clark 2008 ticket, at that point its all downhill fast for the Repukes.
