Real threat is from Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The shrub doctrine is a proven failure: we must fight them there (Iraq) so we won't have to fight them here.

huh? they can't buy airplane tickets?

The former head of the CIA OBL section was on tweety Mathews because the NYT published a lead story leaked by someone(s) that there is a serious resurgence of alqueda in Afghan and Pakistan and that is where the future threat on US soil will come from.

So while we diddle with surges and are told that if we fight them there they won't be able to buy an airplane ticket and come over here- it may not be as simple as that, nor as simple as the minds of 33% of the populace who actually believe this tripe about the need to fight the war in Iraq.

Kerry warned us about this in 2004 but back then the nation was semi-pleased with the "mission" now we are simply in the missionary position- back wards!

I am not a NYT subscriber if any one can pull any of it up-would appreciate it.

Al Qaeda Chiefs Are Seen to Regain Power
By MARK MAZZETTI and DAVID ROHDE
American officials say Al Qaeda has re-established significant control over its once battered worldwide terror network.

Isn't this an issue of vital national import, one that should be trumpeted by Dems who need to point out the shrub doctrine of ticketless bad guys is non-sense. Pointed out before we extend the war to Iran and get sandwiched in between Afghanistan and Nuke wielding Pakistan on the eat and pissed off Iran and Iraq on the west.

The CIA man said that these are the folks likely to fire off a dirty bomb on our soil, not the Kurds and Sunni's and Shiites in Baghdad and Tikrit.

2. The source was all unanamed US officials- a leak? why?
Thank you for the link. It is a sobering article.

I think this will be an important issue in the future- at least it should be. The question is why did they release this info. now? Are they worried enough to start prepping the American people for the bad news.

Remember our alliance with Pakistan depends on the life of one man- if he is deposed who knows what radical elements would rule, and remember, the Paks have the nuke.

>Officials said the training camps had yet to reach the size and level of sophistication of the Qaeda camps established in Afghanistan under Taliban rule. But groups of 10 to 20 men are being trained at the camps, the officials said, and the Qaeda infrastructure in the region is gradually becoming more mature.

The concern about a resurgent Al Qaeda has been the subject of intensive discussion at high levels of the Bush administration, the officials said<
