The "Restoring the Constitution Act of 2007 is the test for HRC.
Does the Senator agree with most of the Country that the Torture Bill needs to be repealed? Here is her chance to show where she stands. Will she co-sponsor this bill? If not, why not?

1. That is a great test for ALL candidates.
Still, HRC's greatest hurdle, dodge or whatever gymnastic maneuver is coming clean on her IWR vote. If she ever comes clean on that, (and time is quickly running out) it will be too late.

2. Hillary remains unrepentant about her vote for PATRIOT
Is she now going to flip-flop and tell us that the Bill of Rights wasn't such a bad idea after all? This woman has a lot of repenting and explaining to do.

7. The Military Commission Act of 2006
The one that, among other things, ripped habeas corpus to shreds and makes it illegal for anyone held as an enemy combatant to sue in court if they are being tortured. Look at it in the Congressional Review or at the ACLU, it's one hell of a doozie.

9. Personally I'm not sure
Although it wouldn't be hard to find out. I think the OP is raising an issue with it because, honestly, HRC has done some things that were pretty craven and aimed at political position, like getting the bug up her butt over video game violence for instance, or how long she supported the war until she finally flipped the other way when it became popular to oppose the war. I don't know how she voted on the bill, but if she votes against a law that would repeal it, then quite frankly it will be a cold day in Baghdad before she gets my vote for dog catcher.

10. she voted against it...
Edited on Thu Feb-15-07 01:42 AM by k_jerome
it is simply a hit and run attack that is typical lately, with no basis in reality. do you not think this is misleading, regardless of your opinion of some of her stances on other issues not outlined in the OP?

the OP is MIA. i wonder why?

21. Maybe because of her past history
And that she seems all too keen to take actions for purely political reasons a little too often. Nothing wrong with holding someone's feet to the fire just in case.

28. Yes. If she is against the MCA then she should be out in front in supporting
the Restoration of the Constitution Act. She should cosponsor. I hope she does but i doubt she will. Restoring the Constitution is most likely too controversial and her advisor's will tell her not to co-sponsor. I thank her for voting against the MCA, but as you know, voting against a bill that is sure to pass doesn't by itself mean much. As I said, this is an opportunity for her to make it clear she supports the Constitution.

Snowe (R-ME)

Also - she voted for the Spector, Byrd, Rockefeller, and Kennedy amendments that all would have improved ascpects of the bill, but all of which failed on essentially party line votes.

I am not a Hillary supporter, but I hate disinformation. Somethings are opinion, votes aren't.

18. I was just backing you up
She did vote the way all of us here want on all 5 votes. The only problem is a gaffe she made when she told the New York Daily News that torture was ok if someone had information on an imminent attack. This allowed McCain, whose bill allows torture, to take the high ground and point out that torture doesn't work and is wrong. (I think this was the biggest gaffe of 2006 made by anyone.)

6. It is THE test for anyone trying
Anyone in the Senate anyway. Honestly I can't say, Hillary seems to be too much of a weathervane, she most likely won't co-sponsor but will vote for it if it looks like it has the votes to pass. She'll probably try to be on the winning side of this, if it doesn't get the publicity it deserves who can say?

25. Yes I am well aware she voted against the MCA and that is commendable.
But as we all know voting against a bill destined to pass isn't necessary definitive. I am sure she is against the MCA and all this post was intended to do is state that she now has an opportunity to show us that her vote against the bill was meaningful. She should have no trouble cosponsoring the repeal. I am sorry that some have interpreted this post as an attack on HRC. It was not meant to be. I certainly hope she supports the repeal.
