Hangin with Dennis
I posted this last night on the General Discussion board. I'm not sure that was the best choice so, I'm reposting it here.

Admittedly, I was already sold on this man as my presidential candidate. Yesterday, he made a stop in Nashville and I spent a couple of hours watching and listening to him answer questions to see if he is what I thought him to be. This is my impression.

He seems to connect with people on a personal level. He's pretty soft spoken if yesterday's anything to judge by. He handles the tough questions with grace and tact. He didn't fumble words. He was direct without being threatening and I like the way he handled some of those dismissive bozos who "interviewed" him. Not that they were rude to his face, but the things they did on the side or said out of earshot.

One guy, a personality on the local news whose name I won't mention, stood to the side with a 5 x 7 photograph of DK. I watched him stop a man (grandpa) walking by to ask him if he knew who it was. I didn't hear the answer, but I could tell he gave the response sought by the reporter by the smirk on his face.

I wondered if he were to show grandpa all of the candidates would he be able to identify them all? Second, it's grandpa. He probably can't remember where he parked his car five minutes ago although he can recall names of people he worked with in 1942 but hasn't seen since. What does this prove? He's not a "real" candidate or we shouldn't vote for Dennis because grandpa can't remember if he's ever seen DK on t.v.? I don't know if the reporter used it on the news or not.

Putting that aside and ending on a positive note. I was not disappointed. DK strikes me as genuine.

1. thanks for posting this
DK is very genuine, which is remarkable in a politician.
I'm looking forward to his return to MN on Feb 21.

4. This is why his detractors work so hard to maintain the
'shrill and hysterical' myth about Kucinich.

We've got our work cut out for us. His showings in ME and WA (despite the glaring press bias / blackout) should be a great motivator for those folks who are campaigning for DK in the super Tuesday states. :)

5. I know this sounds odd but
I would vote for him just because of his house. Modest, simple yet everything you really need. I like the guy! I do wish he had been given more press.

6. Doesn't sound odd to me.
That house looks a lot like the one I lived in for 12 years. The only real difference is mine was slightly smaller and it was a single story home.

I moved to a slightly larger house 2 years ago because I needed the extra room for my wife and her things. Plus, it was much closer to work which saves time and gas.

His modest background and current standard of living speak volumes. Indeed, press would have been nice but Dennis will not be deterred. He feeds off being ignored and belittled as it has always been that way for him.

8. Definately not odd
I live in a house that's very similar to DK's, which is yet another good reason to vote for him, IMHO. He's a regular person who lives a pretty regular life-- he just so happens to be a Congressman from Ohio, too.

You know, at this point, it doesn't even matter if DK wins or not. He's the one who's setting the tone for the race. He's the one who's pushing the issues to the front burner, where the "front runners" have no choice but to discuss them.

Some candidates' followers seem to think that getting their guy elected is all that matters. I beg to differ-- IMHO it's more important that we focus on the ISSUES, and getting our agenda into law.

Sure, I would prefer that DK was the one, but if Kerry or Dean or Edwards can get us a true, single-payer universal healthcare system, I wouldn't oppose them.

Still, it's early yet, and I'm sticking with DK-- to Boston!
