20. You know something? Forget it

Forget it. Forget Christianity or Capitalism or Red-White-and-Bluism. The true religion of the United States is utter, abject, prostration and adoration of the military. Go against the military, say it's overbloated, largely unnecessary, not life affirming, and the most colossal and criminal waste of money in human history, you will lose. Being absolutely right about its utter wastefulness has nothing to do with the domination of the military of every aspect of our society. Even Lt. Watada has to say that he would go fight the war in Afghanistan in order to appease the ravening maw of militarism. Now, what the hell threat is Afghanistan to us? None. What threat is Iraq to us? None. Iran? None. The United States, bristling with weaponry, is poised to increase defense spending to over $2 billion a day. Every day. Saturdays, Sundays, and Jewish High Holy Days included. Two billion dollars. A day. And for all the "defense" that buys our country, we might just as well be flushing it down the toilet. Or handing it directly to overrich defense contractors who can't loot our Treasury fast enough.
