Has Anybody Heard About The USS New York - A Ship Built With 24 Tons Of WTC Steel?....
A Repug friend just sent me the following e-mail:

Subject: The USS New York
Date: Sat, 3 Feb 2007 23:25:38 EST

Here SHE is, the USS New York

USS New York

It was built with 24 tons of scrap steel from the World Trade Center.

It is the fifth in a new class of warship - designed for missions that include special operations against terrorists. It will carry a crew of 360 sailors and 700 combat-ready Marines to be delivered ashore by helicopters and
assault craft.

Steel from the World Trade Center was melted down in a foundry in Amite, LA
to cast the ship's bow section. When it was poured into the molds on Sept. 9, 2003, "those big rough steelworkers treated it with total reverence,"
recalled Navy Capt. Kevin Wensing, who was there. "It was a spiritual moment for everybody there."

Junior Chavers, foundry operations manager, said that when the trade center steel first arrived, he touched it with his hand and the "hair on my neck stood up." "It had a big meaning to it for all of us," he said. "They knocked
us down. They can't keep us down. We're going to be back."

The ship's motto? "Never Forget"
Please keep this going so everyone can see what we are made of in this country!

I thought all the steel was scurried away so it couldn't be analyzed? What's the story?

1. It's got a giant yellow "CRIME SCENE: EVIDENCE" banner across the bow
:eyes:

One of BushCo's more ingenious moves...sell all the evidence as scrap before anyone can check it out.

6. Yep.
You would think they would need that steel tested extensively to find out why those towers came down the way they did--cause there aint no way in hell they should have.

4. They'd better not bump anything when docking
Or else that ship will collapse and sink like a stone.

They should never have used that cheap, poor-quality steel from the WTC. Workers in the WTC weren't allowed to have hot coffee because the rising heat would make the steel sag.

5. 24 tons is a pittance compared to a ships overall mass, isn't it?
As an empty token gesture, I guess it's not the worst they could have done. I mean, they could have built actual bombs out of the twenty-four tons, right?

8. Navy ships use a lot of exotic alloys
as well as alumimum. With the length, the beam and the draft, I'd guess in the neighborhood of 30,000 tons of steel.

7. So the steelworkers "treated it with toal reverence" ? The way to treat it would have

been to investigate it, not melt it.

On edit: "Never forget"--I'll never forget there was no thorough investigation.

Shout out to ezlivin: no hot coffee--funny!

10. As someone who's seen a foundry in action first hand, I can tell you that
all molten steel is treated with "total reverence".

As an aside, a "recycling" business in my area, Taylor Recycling, was given the job of "recycling" the WTC debris. They were made to look heroic because they found and returned some personal effects they discovered in the debris. What's missing from the story, however, is that Mr. Taylor, principal of the company, is a Republican bigwig who raised beaucoup bucks for Bush- and former NYState Republican governor Pataki. Not to suggest that being a Republican is akin to being collusive in hiding something... or that recycling/garbage businesses aren't on the up and up... just sayin'

11. Sorry to change the subject, but here's another ship, one named after Condi...
Edited on Mon Feb-05-07 12:33 PM by mtnsnake

Back then, before Bush could court Condi, who was the Chevron oil barrenness at the time, to any future position in his cabinet, they needed to quietly change the name of the ship and hush up it up to the point that they tried to make as if it never even existed.

Chevron redubs ship named for Bush aide.
Condoleezza Rice drew too much attention
- Carla Marinucci, Chronicle Political Writer
Saturday, May 5, 2001

Leaving a wave of controversy in its wake, one of the most visible reminders of the Bush administration's ties to big oil - the 129,000-ton Chevron tanker Condoleezza Rice - has quietly been renamed, Chevron officials acknowledged yesterday.
