Bush proposes billions for Iraq, may seek more

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush on Monday proposed more than
$700 billion in new spending for the U.S. military -- much of it for the Iraq war --
in a budget that would curb domestic programs from health to education.

Bush also warned that even more spending for Iraq could be needed, as he unveiled
a $2.9 trillion budget for fiscal 2008 certain to stoke anger among Democrats already
braced for "sticker shock" over the war tab.

The costs of the 4-year-old war are inching toward a staggering $1 trillion mark.
If Congress approves the war-funding request, the United States will have spent $661.9
billion on combat in Iraq, Afghanistan and related activities, the administration said.

On the domestic front, Bush called for making his 2001 and 2003 tax cuts permanent and
said it could be done while shifting the budget to surplus by 2012.

1. Has anyone watched that new show on CNN?
They pick visitors to the CNN Studios at random, then pull them into a separate room and ask them their opinion about things. Sunday afternoon, they were talking about how much money we're spending overseas and how we're neglecting our own citizens.

The reporter (I think it was Rick Sanchez?) said that for the money we've spent in the Middle East, we could have built a thick, reinforced concrete wall all around the United States - 20 TIMES!!!

The general consensus was that we should be defending ourselves first, by protecting entry into the country, and fix the problems here before we send so much money elsewhere.

No one wanted more money to go to Iraq, and I don't believe there was even ONE Bush supporter in the bunch. People in America ARE NOT HAPPY.

Congress should make note of that and act accordingly.

Hint to Congress: You are not doing enough. Pick up the pace and put a stop to this monster in the White House.

2. The bushco insanity will be with 'US' long after his last day in office.
Congress needs to cut the spending for 'wars' NOW and force a planned withdrawal of our troops.

3. In or out. Time to make up your mind America, right now
If you hesitate to get out, Bush will glue you to his turd for years maybe decades. He'll demand the money up front, he'll escalate in Iraq, he may even open up a naval and airpower campaign against Iran, yes Iran, to keep you from leaving Iraq.

4. Politicians have always operated under the principle of
ask for the moon and settle for half of it. The trouble with the Bush* Administration is they have asked for the moon every time and the Democrats have given it without a whimper. It has been shocking for the Bush* Cabal. They have expected big fights over their proposals and have ,not only not gotten any, but the Republicans in Majority at the time have even added to it. The Democrats never said a thing just went along. Now Bush* expects the same treatment and is quite likely to get it. I hope for better but it has not been shown as yet.
