Tin foil hats / monkeyshines at the DNC?
Edited on Sat Feb-03-07 11:36 AM by morningglory
Doctor Dean just announced a color guard to retire the colors at the DNC...I have ADD and am booting my pc, reading email, etc., and I am always touched when I see the flag, as I love my country and my flag. I cheer for the right to burn it in protest, I must say. Nonetheless I glanced up at the tv to see our wonderful high school children honoring the flag and the camera was on just 4 shiny chrome helmets lost in the rear of the crowd. I flipped out, thinking some of our creative, hilarious Pink Lady, Du'er, Raging Granny, Aristocrats for Bush, or whatever group had wrapped tin foil around their heads to do a street performance of some kind. "Oh boy! Here we go!" Then (this is why my forehead is sloped) I realized the color guard was in their polished helmets. We Democrats are always on the lookout for a laugh. After seeing the wonderful Mr Watson on C-Span this morning talking about global warming, I have all the lights off in the house, no heat (cold day in northern Florida) sweatpants on. Only the tv and my pc.

3. You go! I am reading Johnny U. Great book about Johnny Unitas.
Was telling my husband last night what I had learned on DU and Rude Pundit(scientists offered cash by AEI to fake up some science to deny global warming, and the Rude Pundit's great post about emboldening the enemy, etc). Link on DU to a writer who said if Shithead attacks Iran, congress will have to take him out quickly in a coup-like manner, get the insane idiot out of our White House, without an orderly investigation and impeachment. That will bring on a constitutional crisis that will be difficult to heal. I said "How are the young people today who know nothing of our great history and constitutional government, not to mention that they have dwelt in climate-controlled houses and schools all their lives and have no idea what a hot water bottle is, how are they going to get this country going again?" Run for your lives...

2. I just got back from a business trip to Texas (Austin/Dallas) and 55 had parkas hoods-up!-now Boston

is 15 degrees to day (this morning) with a thin snow/ice cover on the ground.

20 hours ago I was walking about in suit coat enjoying the fine southern weather! Sweatsuit hoods and even parkas in 55 degree weather, with the TV folks complaining about the cold (50 to 55 degrees) being below "normal temp" for that time of year (I didn't catch what normal was) - I suspect you get used to the weather about you and the local response is always different from that of the visitor.

As an aside - I recommend - even for the old folks - the Austin E Steet music scene. Granted you stand out like a sore thumb amongst all the college kids - but the music is excellent.

As a second aside - the city Hall Thursday night spontaneous gathering for Molly Ivins - a memorial if you will, with gentle sounds - drew near a hundred by my account

The actual funeral service is at the Methodist Church in Austin.

5. Thanks for the heads up - I loved that lady - 6 feet with wild red hair and wit - she was
younger than myself but with a heck of a lot more wisdom, good vibes, and love of life, than I manage to carry around.

6. Parkas at 50-55?
I refuse to wear a coat until it dips into the high 30's. I just hate wearing one. Needless to say, I've felt all tied up for about 3 weeks now. Then next 3 days the temps are going to be below zero, guess the thermal underwear and wool socks are finally going to come out the drawer.

8. LOL - in Vermont they have outdoor wet T-shirt contests at 15 below! - the
local Montpelier paper - the Times Argus - once ran a series that made fun of the kids defying the weather and running about near naked!
