USCIS unveiled a proposal to raise naturalization fees by 80% in 60 days time. The fees will have risen 1000% since 1989. The major consequence of this is that many people will choose not to naturalize and that means they will not be able to vote. Most of these immigrants vote for Democrats. FYI - USCIS used to be the INS until the agency was broken into three agencies in 2003. ICE (great name) deals with interior immigration enforcement and CBP is the Border Patrol (and Customs).
