What Biden's Comment Really Meant
Let's dissect the comment:

“I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” he said. “I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”

What he was saying is we now have a chance to vote for the anti-Bush

Bush is definitely not mainstream. Only morons, the ultra-rich, religious freaks, and conservative nut jobs support this guy.

Bush is white to the core. I wouldn't be surprised if Prescott didn't even allow blacks into his house unless they worked there. So unless someone got it on with the maid, W is 100% cracker.

As far as being articulate. They have written entire books about this and even coined the phrase "Bushism" for W's assault on the English language.

Bush is about as bright as the inside of a pre-historic cave on a dark night during a lunar eclipse before the discovery of fire.

Now the clean comment applies to Bush on several levels. Bush has had some scrapes with the law: cocaine, DWI, etc. He has also soiled his reputation in the business world: Ranger deal, Harken stock dump, drilling for oil in all the wrong places, etc. On a presidential level, let's say there is a lot of blood on Bush's hands. This is not a clean man.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. As a heterosexual man I may not be the best authority but I would agree with the frequent assertion that Bush looks somewhat like something from the chimpanzee species if not a missing piece to the evolutionary puzzle.

The storybook comment counters the Greek tragedy that is playing out in Bush's administration.

Therefore, I say kudos to you Joe Biden for stealthily trashing Bush while praising Obama. We all knew what you meant.

1. I don't know the full context of the speach, but I do know a double standard is occurring
You have fox and friends make comments about Obama attending a Madras School, in which they were strongly implying a link between Obama/Islam/ and terrorism

Not only is it anti_Muslim, but also irrelevent. They also forgot to mention that Obama is a Christian.

You have glen beck questioning the loyalty of an Islamic ELECTED representative. How much more blatant do you want, yet hardly a critisism is leveled at fox or cnn when they allow this garbage to be spewed on their networks respectively

It is the internet that keeps free thought, speech, and new flowing. The media in this country is essentially gone, replaced by yellow jounalism, and entertainment, which includes blatant anti-religious and racist overtones

In reality, that is right in line with the tradition of the United States. Just look at its history

4. No - we don't "all know what" Biden meant
But I'm sure Biden appreciates your very tortured dissection of his comments in your effort to defend him.

I am constantly amazed at the lengths people will go to defend racially insensitive remarks including trying to dismiss, belittle and discount the very genuine and valid reactions of those of us who are offended by such comments and have the temerity to object. It is very interesting how much benefit of the doubt white people get when they say stupid things, a benefit that is rarely extended to blacks who for very good reason raise questions about the stupid things that some white people say, much less say stupid things themselves.

6. uuuh, it was meant to be sarcastic
Why is it that if you don't put the little sarcasm logo up, some people just don't get it. I will try to spell it out for you next time but I thought the last few lines made it obvious.

7. Sorry - but given some of the posts I've read on this topic, yours didn't seem that unusual.
Thanks for clarifying.

8. No problem, I guess the lesson is words can really get turned around
if you are not careful. I like Biden but I hope this sinks his chances and we can just stick to concentrating on people that have a real chance like Obama, Edwards, Clark and Gore. I would love to see any two-man combination of those four. Hopefully Hillary will stick her foot in her mouth a few times and we can move past her too.

14. Hilarious!!!

The fact that white folks calling black folks "articulate" has long been the subject of so many jokes should be a signal to those who insist that we're overreacting that there's there there

11. Why didn't your quote include the word "sorta"?
I thought when you were QUOTING someone, you were supposed to do it verbatim?

15. OK..... so my quote came from cnn.com
and many other sites posted it the same way. Although your site was down for maintenance, I dug around and found audio that says "sorta", so now my question to you is why do you care that sorta was left off my post? Do you think it was deliberate? What's the big deal? Sorry, I didn't go to the original audio source but I figured cnn.com was reliable. Hey, but it is nice to know the quote police are out there just in case.

16. A little sensitive maybe?
Whoa, sorry if any if my piss got into your Wheaties. Personally, I think it changes the flavor of the statement. He didn't say "mainstream", he said "sorta mainstream".

And, if you're going to quote someone, I think you should research and make sure you're quoting them verbatim.

Peace, out.

17. He has no self monitoring and should eschew plain talkin'
It seems he is either not too bright himself, or he was trying too hard to be street hip and loose with his down- to- earth language.

Maybe he meant:
I sorta mean, you got the first clean African-articulate guy, who is story book nice American looking and, man that’s bright.”

I think BO should have ripped this reply to Joey the Mouth:

I mean you got this book articulate guy, who read his first African American story book, the man’s clean and sorta bright, like a used quarter, but he ain’t nice looking for a white guy, man.
