Molly Ivins was an "unapologetic liberal"...
That's what the CBS news announcer just said. WTF? Why should anybody be "apologetic" for being a liberal? What the hell is WRONG with these people? How can ANYBODY still think that the mainstream media are liberal?

1. I Think That Was Their Point
If it had been Faux that said it, I would have taken it the way you did. But CBS is the most liberal of the MSM (and I think they wish less apologetically so). Of course there is nothing wrong with being a liberal or progressive unless you prefer the "good old days" go on forever (or an end to days altogether).

2. go figure - corporate owned media
that has for year flamed "liberals" when in reality we are the huge majority out there working our asses off to pay our taxes, be good citizens, try to stop insane wars, etc.

It's "us" and the media. No apologies here now that we have a smattering of a majority in the government after 12 years of being locked out and kicked around, watched the word "liberal" turn into a derogatory aside by those who now see WTF we meant all along.

3. Might've just been a figure of speech
"Unapologetic" I guess can be a loaded word with many connotations, but I've heard it used in many contexts unaffiliated with "apologies"-- i.e., used to represent someone of conviction who supports a case without "apologizing" (in the sense of modifying or hedging) it. Like an "unapologetic defender" of forests and of the plants and animals in US National Parkland to be protected.

It was probably a complimentary reference to someone very deserving of such compliments. We'll miss you Molly. That combination of folksy Southern down-to-earth communication and insight, that's hard to find.
