Which woman would you prefer receive the Democratic nomination for president?

Out of the women who could be potential candidates for president in 2008, who would you prefer for the Democratic nomination for president?

1. Janet Napolitano or Kathleen Sebelius

two excellent managers who get criminally overlooked. It's too bad they get overlooked for people who are related to presidents or take controversial decisions.

Aside from that, my own personal biases come into play, I can't support anyone in Congress for President anymore, not because of voting records but because I'd rather have someone with administrative experience. Although, I'd give Nancy Pelosi a try if she was Speaker for 6-8 years and out of congress for one term. Good stuff, I'm damn glad that the number of women in government has been increasing, and if it weren't for being born in Canada Jennifer Granholm would probably be a major contender.

It is the best way to go for a man or woman.

Sebelius is the one I always think of as a strong contender.

12. I believe Hoover and Taft were the only ones to go from secretaries to Presidents

in the the last 180 years or so. Why doesn't that happen more often? No mayors yet.

I'd rather see former cabinet secretaries, you know, give them some time outside of an administration after their service to define themselves without a sitting president.

and the last mayor to mount a serious run at the presidency was John Lindsay, I believe, of NYC, or something. he switched from Republican to Democratic, ran for President and lost the nomination, then was in congress or something, I don't know.

23. Richardson was secretary of energy for awhile, a US ambassador to the US,

a congressman for 12 years and is currently a governor. I know he won't be everyone's pick, but he seems to be pretty darn experienced. I don't think there will be any other secretaries in the mix.

4. Barbara Boxer would be the best candidate

But as we all know (and the DLC apparently forgets) Senators do not get elected. So one of the governors would have the best shot. I don't know that much about either of the governors in this poll though, so I voted for Boxer because she would be my true preference among those listed.

17. Boxer would be great! She wins her District by huge margins, & is far more TRUE Dem than Hilary,

yet every bit as bright and gutsy and strong. (Actually stronger.) Boxer was the Senator to stand up for the re-count in Ohio in '04. She's spoken out on many other controversial issues that Hilary has always remained "centrist" on.

I'd vote for Boxer in a nanno-second. Why she doesn't "run," I've no idea. Clearly from the above poll alone, the MSM hype of Hilary simply can NOT even begin to touch Boxer's popularity as a female candidate for Prez.

8. Women are who are most underrepresented in government still.

At least in congress, despite the fact that they make up a slight majority in our national population, they only have about 20% or so representation in state and national government. I bring focus to women, because more and more women are becoming presidential material as more of them are being elected into state office after every election.

The choice of women who can be president to be decided as the "best candidate" are still far fewer than the amount of men who can be chosen from as the best candidate. The social state of our democracy still impairs the voice women have in society and still leaves them as a social minority in this country despite the physical majority they can claim. It is coming time for us to acknowledge these things are changing, and in my mind, women will only be underrepresented in government for another decade at the pace we are going.

She's smart and tough, and of the list you posted, I think she would absolutely be the best choice.

25. Hillary because she's the only one who'd actually stand a chance of winning

a general election. I'm not saying she would win the election, or that she'd even be my favorite woman in the WH, just that she'd have the best chance of all the women listed to beat whomever is the Republican candidate.
