Wife, watching Hillary on Cspan "I'm afraid she's a target for assassination."

She was referring to all the hatred expressed. And she doesn't even read DU!

1. I find it very

....interesting that your wife said that. I's something I've thought of...and I've been a bit concerned about Hillary and Obama.

Curious...since your wife is not a DUer, how does she feel about Hillary?

Cheers

15. I worry about him, too.
He offers so much hope to so many people who never pay attention to politics.

I live in Illinois. I saw reactions of people all over the northern part of this state when he ran for office.

I was in junior high when Kennedy ran for President. My parents campaigned for him. I saw the same thing then.

We have to protect them and him. I don't want to see another generation whose dreams and hopes are dashed.

7. It reminds me

....of Bobby Kennedy and the hope that we all had.

I have the same feeling now.

Cheers

10. Wife was at protests 40 years ago, an early NOW member,

working mother, the whole works. She will work hard for Hillary if nominated, probably moreso than anyone else as of now. Any mention of HRC NOT being a strong candidate because of her husband is at one's own risk. Stay tuned, because I suspect that is the position of a lot of women "of a certain age."

18. I like the way

...your wife thinks!

Tell her to join us, she sounds like she would be a great addition here.

Lol, my husband would certainly agree with you on the "women of a certain age" position.

Cheers :toast:

2. Reagan certainly did not appear to be a target for
assassination. People did not hate him and yet he was shot. To me it is just wishful thinking on the part of some people.

4. If it did happen...
A right-winger assassinating Hillary would accomplish the exact opposite of what he wanted, since it would give the Democrats a martyr and make the RW look evil.

anything republican would be anathema to this country for easily the next 75 years.

8. It's character assassination today.
Just as effective, less messy, and no martyr effect to contend with.

9. I went to a Hillary book signing in 2004 and she had 8 to 10 secret service
people at the bookstore in Pasadena, California. They were stationed both inside and out with half dozen or so local police.

BTW, the line for autographs wrapped around the block.

11. Nah
There hasn't been an assassination attempt since Poppy got in office. He's Bubba's second daddy, so I'd say Hillary's safe.

16. What kind of BS are you peddling?
There were several attempts on president Clinton..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_Presidential_assassination_attempts#Bill_Clinton

Heres just a few:

Bill Clinton

October 29, 1994: Francisco Martin Duran fired at least 29 shots with a semi-automatic rifle at the White House from Pennsylvania Avenue, outside the south lawn, thinking that Clinton was among the men in dark suits standing there (Clinton was in the White House Residence watching a football game). No one was hurt and Duran was sentenced to 40 years in prison.<3>

September 13, 1994: Frank Eugene Corder crashed a two-seat, propeller-driven aircraft into the White House grounds. President Clinton and family were staying in the Blair House at the time and were unharmed. Corder was killed, though no other injuries were reported.<4>

Clintons trips to the ME were also fraught with assassination attempts to the point Secret Service recommended the use of decoys, based on Intel information, if in fact an attempt was made.

12. With all of the RW nuts out there, I too am concerned for all
of our candidates. Like your wife, the thought occurred to me as I watched Hillary on C-Span. Paranoia?

13. I'm afraid any Democratic candidate may be a target!
I'm old enough to remember the Kennedys and Martin Luther King. If anyone on the left begins to offer hope and to represent a possibility of change, the powers that be will consider removing him.

Whoever, the Democratic candidate is, he's got to have a Vice-President who'll publicly state that he'll carry on his President's policies. Don't even think of a conservative VP to "balance the ticket!" Remember JFK and LBJ.

19. I'd think Bush would be a greater risk.
(I'm NOT advocating it!!!!)

But, given the hatred he attracts (with good reason) I could see any number of scenarios in which someone would try to harm him.
