Old Leftie Lawyer says that she thinks Fitzgerald is going after the
man she calls "fuckface" and we here call *. You'll recall that Lefty was a trial attorney in D.C. for years. Just thought I'd share this.

I've missed her since she's been gone. She could have a sharp tongue (okay, keyboard!) but was always interesting, and often insightful. One of the few voices of sanity in the early Duke lacrosse threads, and got my back when I got flamed, which I really appreciated.

because it fitzgerald looks like he`s doing the same thing in this trial as he did in illinois. it took 50 convictions to get to ryan..ryan was convicted on the principal of creating a "climate of corruption"...in this case it is called impeachment for high crimes and misdemeanors

ya say hi to her..man did she had some great insights

47. OLL did not suffer fools lightly, and let them know it.
She had the experience and the education and the smarts to know what was what and how the political system worked, and particularly how the law constrains possibilities. The posters who didn't like facing said reality tended to respond to her with "you think you're smarter than everyone" or "you think you're so smart just because you're a lawyer."

When DUers have legal problems and post something like "Help! DU lawyers! Need legal advice!" they get it, for free, and they ask for it because they know that when it comes to law, lawyers ARE smarter than regular viewers of The Practise, or any one who responds with what they think the law SHOULD be. These types are no brighter than Bush when he responded to the question of why his new approach with Iraq will work, with the answer "Because I told them it had to work".

OLL ran into the same thing I run into - when I mention my bona fides as a lawyer, to PROVE that I know what I'm talking about when it comes to legal matters, I get snotty responses like, "Oh, if you're such a hotshot lawyer, how do you have time to post here?!?!?!" Answer: The same place I get time to do a hell of a lot of pro bono work for the elderly and for my township, and campaign for good candidates - I'm RETIRED! As OLL pm'd me at one point, she realized it (posting on some types of DU threads) was a waste of her time. And I haven't seen her post here since I got that message from her. And I would like to remind you all that there have been many times when DU lawyers have gone to a lot of trouble to get more facts and then research another state's law (not the law of their own state, with which they are familiar) for posters.

51. It's not selfless - it's the least any lawyer can do given the corruption of the legal profession
and the inability of many people to afford necessary legal advice and counsel. The lawyers who post on DU are, IMO, a very small minority of the legal profession. Most lawyers are so driven by the pressure to rack up insane amounts of billable hours, often linked with chasing as many $$$ as possible, that they have absolutely no involvement in their communities. They'll serve on bar association committees (to impress their clients in the firm's brochure), or even some community activities - carefully chosen to generate client contacts and more MONEY. They think I'm batshit crazy to retire on 1/3 of what I was earning - but that's because they have never developed other relationships or activities or passions in life. They may belong to exclusive clubs and play golf there - but always with clients to whom they deliberately lose. They have skyboxes at stadiums, but spend the game schmoozing more clients. They work until they drop dead or are kicked out because of senility. The other thing - and this applies to everyone, not just lawyers - is that helping other people out makes me happy. Studies have shown that to be the case - too bad more people don't try it.
