Fat Gore Theory: "If you see a chubby, happy Al Gore...at the Oscars, forget it, he's not running."
Does Al Gore Have a Fat Chance in '08?

Al Gore supporters are hoping he didn't plow through too much celebratory cake after learning about his Oscar nomination for An Inconvenient Truth. Some have even floated the theory that if the once-kinda-sorta president shows up on the red carpet at the Kodak theatre looking large and in charge, he'll sit out '08: If he's thin, he's in.

The "Fat Gore" theory appears to have first cropped up in November on Mick LaSalle's Maximum Strength Mick blog on SFGate.com: "When Al Gore started to run for the presidency in 2000, he was thin. By the time the race was over, he had gained a lot of weight (like Clinton in 1992), and then he kept on gaining weight in the months after the election ... If you see a chubby, happy Al Gore standing next to the producer and director, celebrating the win at the Oscars, forget it, he's not running."

1. In the most recent pics I saw of Gore
Edited on Fri Jan-26-07 11:47 AM by lancdem
he looked chubby.

And it's hard for me to get used to, because he was svelte for so long.

2. I've thought this for a long time
If he starts losing weight, it means he's going to run, or is at least seriously considering it. If he stays the way he is, he's not seriously considering it.

Every time I see a new photo of him, I get depressed, because I really want him to run.

3. Considering how fat Americans are becoming...
...maybe a fat Gore is good to go for 2008. At least I hope that's the case.

13. Something tells me that he makes decisions differently than this.
First he's a guy, a politician, not Britney Spears who would chose to diet before touring or releasing a new CD. Who cares what he looks like? Is there a bikini competition during the debates that I am not aware of?

If Al decides to run it's because he is ready for whatever anyone throws at him. I doubt that fat jokes would be the deciding factor. D'uh.

14. There they go again!
Next it's going to be Earthtones Redux, or three-button suits, or cowboy boots. We had enough of this shit in the 2000 elections, and now we're in Iraq.

16. Handsome in Person
Girl I work with met him and talked to him last year and said he is even better looking in person than on tv or pics. Her parents are big democrats in Seattle she said so she got invited to a dinner with him. He was real nice to her. She said she was nervous so can't remember what she said!

17. -- except that HE wasn't nominated.
The film was, and those involved in the 'paying for' and 'producing of'.
Not Al, although I'm sure he'll get more than enough mention when it does win, and he'll most likely BE at the Oscars and probably up on stage for the acceptance ...
