Because Jim Webb gave a good speech and proved to be a good communicator I predict the Republicans will begin attacking him personally in the next few weeks.

1. Well they started attacking him weeks ago...
During the campaign....and got their head bit off!

They may think twice before doing it again...though with their diminished IQ they very well may try...I hope they do....it'll backfire!

5. I hope they do
I remember Webb when he was SECNAV in the 80's and I thought, damn this guys a pain in the ass. But there was no amiguity in his needs, wants and desires. I hope the republican trash chickenhawks go after a former marine who literally has skin in the game (his son in Iraq.)

2. Let 'em try...
Edited on Wed Jan-24-07 11:44 AM by GainesT1958
"Macaca Man's" campaign already tried to drag him through the mud...even accusing him of being a "porn writer" in his terrific novels about war. Didn't work..not even voter intimidation worked for them against Jim Webb.

This man is tougher than all of their mud-slingers and dirty tricksters put together, by a power of 100. And he's tougher than the current occupant of the White House by a power of 1000. (Of course, maybe we should limit that to those his age who acutally SERVED in Viet Nam!:eyes: )

Jim Webb really was "born fighting", and never grew out of it. Thank God he's on OUR side!:D

B-)

3. They already had at him during his campaign
If you remember Lynn Cheney criticized his books because of their sex content. His response, "I'm proud of my Literary Career". Then Stephen King held him a fund raiser. Oh yes and there was the women in the military thing, which he apologized for and corrected a lot of false statements people had made about him. Then Leslie Byrne and Hillary Clinton sponsored a breakfest for him. Then there was the Bush taunting him about his son thing. Made him look brave, and Bush looked, as usual, like an ass. I put the campaign sign, Jim Webb, Born Fighting!" back in the window after that. It will stay there.

I hope Republicans can see the pattern here. Webb will not lie down and be Swift-Boated. You try and your ass is grass.

6. If the 'Right' attacks Sen Webb I would venture they will lose some support.
Americans prefer straight talking individuals who have walked the walk - he's a bit of an insider who hasn't lost his integrity nor his conviction for what is right. I hope they do attack him and it blows up in their faces.

7. Agreed. Seems to me there is some situational luck involved.

Right time, right place, right tone, that sort of thing.
