In other words, is he in your top 3?

2. I don't know much about him but, I would keep an open mind. He seems
to be very smart.
My #2 choice just announced today: Richardson. I had planned to go with him this summer along with some others who didn't pan out (gore and feingold).

36. I encourage you
to read up on Richardson before committing. I have a good friend, NM native, who has been politically active her entire life and she has files on Richardson that are... well, as she puts it, he needs to be carefully vetted.

And there is no one else. I'm tired of compromising my values for second best. I want PROVEN LEADERSHIP, not one run on Hope. I want a REAL Leader who's proven to lead our country, together as one. There's no one, other than Wesley Clark, whom I trust to become POTUS!

which could make for some rather interesting debates.

19. I am strongly opposed to ex-generals and militarists in civilian gov't...
...but that's not the same thing as opposing anyone "who had a military background." It's one thing to have been in the military and quite another to have been a career militarist at the staff officer level. I think the latter needs much more scrutiny before being endorsed for the white house, especially when, like Clark, they show no interest in any elected office other than the commander-in-chief. In my mind that display precisely the sort of autocratic approach that makes me wary of ex-generals in the first place.

31. Military men are FAR less likely to send men to war
Military men (like Eisenhower) are FAR less likely to send men to war, because they have seen firsthand that war is hell, as Sherman said. Draft-dodgers like the Repukes (only one of them that seems to have served is McCain, and he's nuts) are eager to send young men and women off to unnecessary and illegal wars that are imperialism, not truly defense wars, because they think it's a big video game.

I think Wesley Clark is fabulous, and doesn't take going to war likely. Not to mention that he's sharp as a tack, first in his class at West Point, charismatic as hell, and very good looking and an excellent speaker.

That said, I think he'd make a great Secretary of State if he doesn't run for President. And he took Oklahoma in the primary in '04!

"I looked into the eyes of the children in the countries that were scarred by war, and wondered if hope would be there." -- General Raymond S. McLain Sr., founder of the Okla. National Guard, Commander of the 45th and 90th Divisions.

51. I understand your concerns but we need someone to
lean on the neocons and get them out, they are very fond of pulling the if you don't support
the war, you are a girlie man, most of those who have consistently spoken out against the
Iraq War have been those with military service, Sen. Hagel, Sen. Webb and Sen. Kerry. I
think that Clark has been actively involved in supporting political candidates and issues
all the time, not just when the spotlight shines on him. And he has experience as a leader,
one thing we don't need is another individual who is everyone's dream candidate in front
of the camera and and a useless, inexperienced amateur on the job.

Comes across as less of a politician. I think his military background would be a plus, especially with public opinion against the Iraq war, at this time.

42. Thanks for the link.
I will consider Wes Clark and have always respected him. He would add a lot to the great group the Democratic party has now.

My (dwindling) hope is that Gore will enter the race, and I'm happy to see my governor, Richardson, enter the fray. I once thought that Dean would make it to the nomination and eventually the presidency, but Dean is doing such a great job now as DNC Chair--I couldn't be happier. I always expected that regardless of who won the nomination and the presidency, Clark would figure into a prominent place in the new administration.

We have a great number of patriotic contenders. The fact that they're interested, in the midst of this catastrophe, says a lot about them. Their experience and wealth of education says even more.

Cheers! :toast:

Dogs are necessary, and thanks.

17. I voted no because he's not in my "top 3" but really the issue is more complicated...
...than that. The real answer is that yes, I would certainly consider whether to vote for him if he was the democratic nominee. His politics are a mix of things that I agree with wholeheartedly and things that I disagree with strongly enough to oppose his candidacy, so he's a mixed bag IMO. If he's the party nominee then I would weigh his positions against those of other candidates, just as I would do if someone more to my liking, like Dennis Kucinich, were the nominee.

22. This guy has sacrificed a life of ease and comfort to serve his country....
He could be sitting on over a dozen corporate boards right now earning millions in commission, living the life of luxury. Rather, even after 35 years of military service, he's just a simple old-fashioned guy who believes in public service.

With the sacrifices Clark makes, it's hard to not support him.

30. I must be a mixed bag of tricks, but I need an 'Other" choice!
Even though my spouse and I donated more to and worked harder for Howard Dean in the last primary, I took my kids out of school one afternoon and we attended a rally for Wes Clark at the Chattanooga Choo Choo. I listened to all of the candidates during the forums, and at crunch time my spouse and I split out primary votes between Clark and Dean.

I like Edwards, Richardson; I love Dennis Kucinich, but I'm still waiting to see who is running and who isn't...Gore hasn't declared yet (my fav, besides Dennis), neither has Clark, so I don't have a top 3 yet, it is far too early for me.

At this point I can say that I'm the least favorable toward Vilsack and Sen. Clinton, so I didn't vote in your poll. :hi:

Yes of course. Gore would be my second choice and after that I'm uncertain. It used to be I would say Clark, then either Gore or Feingold. Too bad Feingold is out. Obama, Richardson, Dodd, dunno, after them even less likely. I hope I can get one of my top two. But I really really hope we can get Clark. The man doesn't duck questions and he doesn't lie, and he does know what he's taling about, and no one really owns him other than his own core values, and I respect those.

I've been waiting a long time for someone like Clark to come along who actually stands a chance of getting elected President. Now I'm just waiting for Clark to say he's in the race.
