http://www.ronsuskind.com/theonepercentdoctrine/

I hurredly finished it last night.

There was lots of insight into the day to day (the means as we find out at the end) of the CIA doings which were pretty interesting.

I still think that "fight them here so we don't have to fight them here" is purely for domestic political consumption but the fact that many in the CIA and apparently in the press corp (not that they mentioned it) took it as admitting that they couldn't stop and attack on the US very interesting.

Suskind completely jumps over and around the timing of the alert raises (even justifies a couple), Ashcroft's Padilla announcement, Ashcroft, and the outing of the double agent INSIDE alQaeda.

The story about Zawahiri's supposed head was interesting and indicative of the whole process.

The doctrine itself is so singularly pointed to the PNAC Pax Americana that to provide it any importance otherwise is misplaced. That Cheney really thinks in terms of behavioral science rings more as justification rather than the impetus (the means).

The book seems to me to be cover for
1.Tenet
2. Bush-he comes off as very engaged, relevant, and intuitive
3. The press in that Suskind never gets around to how all of this was known in and around the press and they kept a lid on it.

The writing was good but I didn't enjoy it or the book as much as I did "The Price of Loyalty" Paul O'Neill's book with Suskind.

I think Suskind was overly nice with this effort.

Your thoughts?
