Thank you Judy Woodruff! As seen on Meet The Press Sunday (surge vs. escalation)
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8987534/

The transcript is not available at this time, but during the Guest and Topics section of today's Meet The Press, Tim Russert asked Michael Gordon, John Harwood, Judy Woodruff a variety of questions. Many were about the so-called, Rovian-laced "surge" to troops in Iraq. The other people on the show (as well as all the other political shows) referred to the convenient, softened term "surge"...to me, it sounds either like a new soft drink or the moment before a Viagra-induced orgasm.

Woodruff finally made a point about the "surge" by saying it was actually an "escalation", hence bringing visions of Viet Nam in people's heads. She made a point that the use of "surge" was a political one, and not the realistic affirmation that it was indeed an "escalation".

When the transcript becomes available, I'll post it. Hopefully Crooks and Liars makes a point of posting the video...

3. "Surge Into The
Abyss" is what it is. And Escalation in Blood and Treasure is what they're Wasting.

4. Hey, as originally proposed/ reported, it WAS a surge.
It's become something very different, something very worthy of the word escalation, in the course of its development, at least in terms of how it's been reported. Perhaps in some circles it was always a permanent troop increasefrom the start.

5. Bush thinks he will win this war, come hell
or high water. If he can't win militarily he will try winning through semantics and rhetoric. And unless things change in the next few weeks he will win. He has swallowed this country whole and will spend the next two years digesting it. I know I am impatient but where is the hero who will will come to our aid? I hope the Democrats turn MEAN! This is no time for civilty. Civility went out the window in election 2000. Judge Rehnquist on medication. Isn't that a slap in the face. Someone out of his skull voted for a dictator. And while I am at it what the hell does Sandra O'Conner know about Iraq? Why was she put on that committee that came up with crap? OK rant over.

8. Excellent! From now on we should ALL call it an escalation...not a surge.
We made "stay the course" a no-no and we can do it to the spin term "surge". Send it to Keith...he could make mincemeat out of it and make the public aware of just what surge means.

Bravo, for this statement "it sounds either like a new soft drink or the moment before a Viagra-induced orgasm." Send that to Keith with your permission to use it...he'd love it! So would the internets which would spread the message. A little sexy humor would spread quickly.
If Keith doesn't use it...send it to Stuart...or maybe both.

9. So there will be an escalation in American troops
An escalation in the number of civilian deaths.
An escalation in the number of foreign countries cutting and running to avoid association with the USA.
An escalation in the stupidty from dimwad's mouth. Whoops! Not possible for anything to escalate out of dimwad's mouth.

10. I've been using escalation
since the first mention of a troop increase. I also refer to those killed in Iraq as "wasted", another VietNam euphemism.

11. It IS an escalation. Makes me think of the old Tom Paxton song,
"Lyndon Johnson Told the Nation" http://www.lyricsdownload.com/paxton-tom-letter-from-lbj-lyrics.html

The chorus goes like this:

Lyndon Johnson told the nation
Have no fear of escalation
I am trying everyone to please
Though it isn't really war
We're sending fifty thousand more
To help save Viet nam from the Viet Namese
