Sheehan arrives in Cuba to protest Gitmo.......Go Cindy Go!

By Anita Snow, Associated Press

HAVANA — American "peace mom" Cindy Sheehan called for the closure of the U.S. military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, as she and other activists arrived here Saturday to draw attention to the nearly 400 terror suspects held at the remote site.
Sheehan is among 12 human rights and anti-war activists who will travel across this Caribbean island next week, arriving at the main gate of the Guantanamo base in eastern Cuba on Thursday — five years after the first prisoners were flown in.

1. I agree. We have courts in the US for trying anyone who...
...broke the law.

The US should not have prisons in Cuba or courts in Cuba.

2. The EU has been calling for the same thing for years.
American torture prisons full of innocent abductees stripped of every human and civil right, who woulda thunk it six years ago?!

Way to go Cindy!

4. Cindy and her group are so right to protest this! Lest we forget...
the forgotten prisoners of Guantanamo Bay--tortured, isolated, many of them innocent of any crime, at the mercy of the sadistic criminal in the White House...

...our country's name will live in infamy forever, because of this...

...and the actions of those who protest it--these protesters, many lawyers, and the brave members of the military who have tried to stop it--are the only thing that redeems us...

...every day they suffer, some have gone mad, some have committed suicide, some have been tortured, some are still being tortured, some have suffered "rendition" flown round the world in horrendous conditions, to secret torture dungeons in unknown places, their heads now filled with nightmares that never go away...what does Bush want from them?...who are they? ...no one knows...are they witnesses to Bush Cartel crimes? ...are they just playthings of our sick president? ...none have been prosecuted...none have even been accused... what have they done? ...why are they there? ...no one knows...

...and I cannot help but contrast this with the politics in Congress, with our smiling "presidential hopefuls"...hoping to preside over what?...with Bush's "Little Dictator" posturings, even with our own activities here at DU and in our grass roots democracy movement...the hundreds of thousands of dead in Iraq are...dead...there is no bringing them back...but the prisoners of Guantanamo Bay are alive, and, like flies whose wings are being picked off by a cruel child, cannot get away...

...it is Guantanamo Bay, more than any other thing, that makes me weep for our country.

Thank you, Cindy, Media and friends, for protesting this! You speak for me!

5. Sheehan continues to fight her battles at the fringe.
First, she literally embraces Hugo Chavez, now she's in Cuba.

I approve of her message, but I don't like her approach.

6. she's also attending a conf. in Cuba - more power to her!

close Gitmo down completely, tear down the prison cages and give up the forced renting of Cuban land.

have clensinghealing ceremonies over the land and turn it into a beautiful public garden.
