5. Who says America's not ready for a black president?
Judging by these pics from Boston, we may be further along than people think.

21. Well, for one thing, this is Boston, Mass.
Edited on Sat Jan-06-07 10:45 AM by Clark2008
Not Birmingham, AL. or Oklahoma City, OK.

Just making a point and not attempting to rain on Patrick's parade. I'm very happy for him and the party, but Masschusetts isn't exactly a bellweather state. :)

22. I have found Boston to be just as racist as the deep South
Edited on Sat Jan-06-07 10:55 AM by beaconess
I've lived in Massachusetts and I've lived in the South. Boston was no bed of racial harmony - racial divisions were stark and folks there could hate with the worst of them.

That's why I'm so excited about the changes I've seen there and the beauty of Patrick's victory and incredible inauguration. When he first announced plans to run, people said there was NO WAY a black man could be elected governor, but he and millions of his fellow citizens proved them wrong. If Boston can turn itself around this way, there's hope everywhere.

23. My husband's from Boston and he says it's more racist
than the deep South; however, it's in pockets and not the "voting booth racism" we experienced in Tennessee during the Ford/Corker race.

24. I'd like to have a President from Mass. I will be watching to see
if he can undo the damage from all those years of Republican Gov's.

Go Governor Patrick! :applause:

7. He reminds me of Clinton
Not in looks of course, but in the feeling I have when I hear him speak. He fills you with hope for the future and a real sense that we can make changes for the better, for all people.

If I did'nt so selfishly want to keep him here in MA I would want him to run for the Presidency. BUT... we need him to help fix things here first. Black, brown, or white it is his message of hope that elected him and I finally feel as though MA has a Governor who not only loves his state but wants the WHOLE state to succeed, not just the chosen few.

GO Patrick!!!!

17. agreed...
he's young, let him have a chance to do a GREAT job in MA. Give him the experience, so that he can run without the media's questioning his "lack of a record".

As a MA resident i too am looking forward to a brighter future with him at the helm.

If he can do two terms in Mass., he should be prime presidential material in another 10 years.
