You better watch who you compare to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
TO: Jeff Greenfield

FROM: Joseph Hughes

DATE: January 3, 2007

SUBJECT: Regarding the "jacket-and-no-tie look"

Jeff, remember last month, when, speaking about Sen. Barack Obama's attire, you said, "But, in the case of Obama, he may be walking around with a sartorial time bomb. Ask yourself: Is there any other major public figure who dresses the way he does? Why, yes. It's Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who, unlike most of his predecessors, seems to have skipped through enough copies of GQ to find the jacket-and-no-tie look agreeable. And maybe that's not the comparison a possible presidential contender really wants to evoke"?

Well, I'd like to point you to this photo, taken late last month in Crawford, Texas:

US President George W. Bush, flanked by members of his National Security Team including Vice President Dick Cheney (L), Defense Secretary Robert Gates (2-L), Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice (2-R) and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Peter Pace (R) in December 2006 at the President's Crawford, Texas, ranch. Bush will make a statement from the White House's Rose Garden after meeting with the cabinet, his office said. (AFP/File/Tim Sloan)

1. But... but... but their Great Leader, the man God Appointed... he is "different."
And once again, their stupidity is handed to them on a silver plate.

2. There's a difference. Obama's outfits are well made, stylish, and tailored. Bush's looks like
he slept in it and it's ugly, ugly, ugly!

3. Hypocrisy. It's wonderful or it's horrible. Depends on which side of "it"
you happen to be on.

It's mind numbing that anyone gives the Bush Administration any credibility at all these days.

4. Why does he always have to have the entire cabal of
war criminals standing either beside him, around him, or behind him?

Do they know what they look like when they stand there and Chimpy is the leader. That's pretty sad. He's the dumbest of the bunch.

5. In Iran it's not fashion statement
Ties there are considered to be a symbol of corrupt Western influence. Personally I can't see what earthly purpose they serve anyway - just a hangover from the past.

7. Ties are fun
All aspects of fashion are a hangover from the past. Men don't get to nearly have as much creativity in choosing their clothes as women do and ties are one of the few exceptions.

8. I only ever wear them for
weddings and funerals apart from other isolated occasions where a bunch of of us agree to dress vintage retro with zoot suits whatever for swing dancing.
