Dear President George, This small business owner asks you to shove your tax cuts up your ass.
Dear President George,

I am a partner in a small business. In fact, we're pretty much the model of the smallest of small businesses. We're three partners and one part time employee. We provide a professional service and have been at it, successfully, for decades. We make a decent living, but we're not rich.

George, your notion that an increase in the minimum wage needs to be offset by a tax cut for people like us is sheer bullshit. We pay our employee very well - in excess of $50.00 an hour.

How about that, George? Do we deserve a tax cut?

Don't obfuscate the tax cut you want to give to my fellow 'small business' owners by saying you're helping me. I won't be your camouflage. I am not at all in the same category as that 'furniture store owner' who let your mother and father pose for a bell ringing photo op the other day. you know ..... the 'small business owner' who dropped a $50,000 photo op check into the photo op bucket in front of Babs and Poppy.

There are people homeless in this country. There are children hungry in this country. The raise in the minimum wage will do a tiny bit to help them. But it doesn't go even half far enough. To conflate it with more welfare for your rich buddies is the height of insult.

I hope your Christmas turkey burns in the oven, you mean spirited asshole.

4. May your small business continue to prosper!
And thanks for thinking of workers down at the bottom of the pay scale. Hey, I work for the princely sum of $8 an hour, and have had to find a second job to help with paying for luxuries like food and medicine. I don't see how anyone working for minimum can make it at all.

5. All this small business owner has seen is tax increases.
I'm sure I must have just missed the boat somehow, but my taxes have only gone up. I keep hearing about all of these huge tax cuts the Republicans have given us, but somehow I keep paying more in taxes. FICA keeps going up, I got whacked with the AMT this year for the first time, deductions keep disappearing, local taxes increase to offset reductions in federal grants, stealth taxes like what it costs me to provide health insurance are rising at multiples of the bullshit CPI.

Funny thing is, back when I was a salary worker when that asshat Reagan was giving out those big Republican tax cuts, my taxes went up every year too. Something about bracket inflation and FICA cola adjustments just seemed to keep me from ever seeing any of those fabulous Republican tax cuts.

Oh wait, I did get that freaking check in the mail after 9-11. I think we gave it to the DNC.

Minimum wage offset? What? As far as I am concerned the minimum wage ought to be at least $10, ought to be COLA adjusted, and we ought to be working on a planetary minimum wage so that those corporate greed heads lose their 'this worker against that worker ship it overseas' game they've been playing for the last 30 years.

6. Suddenly, I had a vision of Bush trying to Deep Fry a turkey.
But thoughts of President Cheney made that picture less hilarious...

8. I'm confused
You can afford to pay an employee $50 an hour but you are not rich? Would that I enjoyed similiar poverty.

11. You shouldn't have to be rich
to pay a quality employee what he is worth. Especially a part-timer.

9. Another small business owner here...
And I agree with everything you said. It is criminal that by law I only have to pay my employees $5.15 an hour!!!
