PM calls for alliance over Iran

Moderate Muslim states must form an "alliance of moderation" to counter Iran and challenge its influence, UK prime minister Tony Blair has urged.

He called on the world to "wake up" to the monumental struggle between the forces of moderation and extremism.
--snip--

Speaking in New York, Tareq al-Hashemi suggested Mr Blair had supported his idea of announcing a timetable for withdrawal, but was then "brainwashed" into changing his mind by US President George Bush.

2. Call me old fashioned, but if the crown had any relevance or power
his head would be on a pike on a bridge somewhere. He has betrayed his country for personal profit.

8. Back in the days when that sort of thing happened
It wasn't because people had betrayed the country but because they had acted contrary to the interests of the crown.

So, appealing though the image of Tony Blair's head on a pike somewhere might be, England is better off now than then.

3. Hasn't he figured out yet
that the bellicose policies he's supported have actually strengthened the fundamentalists at the detriment of the progressive Muslims?

The whole point of this great exercise was to create those conditions and bring on perpetual War.

5. He's trying to make the many progressive Muslims....
Look as though they are following his orders.

Once upon a time, Blair did not seem to be an idiot.

6. Idiot comes out of the closet
I think he's been this way all along but desperation requires desperate measures.

7. The 'Long War'
Fearless Leader weighs in on the 'long War':

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/12/20061220-1.html

"This war on terror is the calling of a new generation; it is the calling of our generation. Success is essential to securing a future of peace for our children and grandchildren. And securing this peace for the future is going to require a sustained commitment from the American people and our military.

We have an obligation to ensure our military is capable of sustaining this war over the long haul, and in performing the many tasks that we ask of them."

9. He wants an alliance of moderate dictators to counter the
more democratically elected jerk in Iran in order to spread democracy. Hope that works out for him.

10. Blair is an old-fashioned imperialist at heart
He may call himself 'Labour' and a 'modernizer', but as regards foreign policy, he would have loved to rule an Empire on Which the Sun Never Set. For the last 60 years, this has been impossible, and indeed not even something that most British people want, let alone those who'd be his overseas subjects. So he's teamed up with Bush's imperialist mission.

An even simpler explanation is that he's barking mad at heart.

11. Hard to imagine anyone being brainwashed by Bush
More likely, the vacuum where Bush's brain used to be sucked out part of Blair's brain.
