CNN Poll: Gore would barely beat McCain; Clinton would beat Giuliani
If the 2008 elections were today:

Gore would tie Giuliani.
Clinton would tie McCain.

These polls mean little today, but the "maverick" aura around McCain, and the "leader" aura around Giuliani seem to be not as strong as many perceived them to be.

2. If the 2008 elections were today:
You do understand:

1. The election is not today.
2. The election is not even next year.
3. It's over 22 freaking months from now.

So, this is just another one of those totally meaningless 2008 election poll posts.

5. Reality...
You do understand:

1. The election is not today but the campaign has already begun.
2. The election is not even next year yet again campaign has already begun.
3. It's over 22 freaking months from now yet campaign has already begun.

See ya in Nov. 2008 when the "election is on"...

17. So the media says.
Edited on Wed Dec-20-06 06:09 PM by longship
The media is trumpeting all this 2008 stuff because it sells more shampoo, beer, and SUVs. If you want to be a media stooge, go ahead and believe them when they tell you how important it is for you to declare a front-runner in a national election which isn't going to happen for another fucking 22 months.

The "official" campaign beginning for the 2008 election isn't until a few weeks prior to the first caucus or primary. Even being generous, that isn't until near-end 2007.

Can't stand all this 2008 election gum flapping. No matter what the major media is saying, it's totally meaningless at this time.

3. Would John Edwards Beat "Stone Cold" Steve Austin?
Hillary/Zell would definitely crush Burns/Allen. No contest.

7. 2008
Let's look at the recent 3 polls from The Wall street Journal,Newsweek, and CNN.They show Bush and the war are starting to hurt Mccain, and his double diget leads are gone.

Wall Street Journal-Mccain only leads Hilary by 4,and Obama by 5.Edwards narrowly leads Mccain

Newsweek-Hilary leads Mccain by 7,and has a narrow lead over Guiliani. She has a even larger lead over Romney.Obama trails Mccain and Guiliani but also has a nice lead over Romney

CNN-Hilary Is tied with Mccain, has a narrow lead over Guiliani, and leads Romney.Obama trails both Mccain, and Guiliani but leads Romney.Gore narrowly Leads Mccain,Is tied with Guilani, and leads
Romney.

We can tell by these Is that our Eventully nominee(which will be Hilary,or Obama,or Edwards,or Gore)
can win however they must not support the troop surge, and must adopt a prolabor stance for the midwest and appeal to Libertian learning voters(pro Choice Pro Gun Anti War,Pro Environment) In the
west.We have to decide among them who we want.It took Gore untill the Democratic Convention to end Bush's lead.We are almost there with Mccain already.

Romney Is the weakest of the 3 candiates Republicas are most likely to nominate(although Gingrich
should be Included In these matchups and Edwards In more)Obama Is a newcomer yet he Is only a few points behind.Gore Is proving that he could win If he decides to run.

11. Gamera is a great candidate!
He just lacks the name recognition of Godzilla. That'll change soon as he plans on a media blitz and some good publicity due to his recent defeat of Ghidra and his vote against IWR.

8. So, what are the numbers for the 2000 and 2004 elections?
I mean, surely they've bothered to ask what the poor idjuts would choose to vote for, if today it were November 2000 and 2004 respectively, right? Right?

Because if that's not the case...

What's the friggen' deal with this idiotic and inherently useless polling of phantom candidates?

10. key phrase . . . "If the 2008 elections were today" . . .
in political time, two years is an eternity . . . anything can, and likely will, happen between now and the election . . . and even between now and the primaries . . .

12. why some are angry about this poll
i'm assuming that it's because Obama is trailing both McCain and Giuliani. Obama seems to be the favorite in DU.

But calm down. He's in a good position for someone with his limited experience.

18. Obama is the favorite of
the MSM and there are a few very prolific (and my guess, paid) sheep here at DU more than happy to carry out their orders. And the previous posters are correct, polls this early on mean nothing.

I'm not sure who you're shilling for here (we will, no doubt, find out soon enough) but fear not, the rest of the Democratic field holds equal mediocrity (and I'm being generous).

13. McCain's BO will kick in when we get close to the elections (Boring & old). I don't think we really
want a senile leader. Even people that love Reagan admit that it appeared his Alzheimers had already started while he was Prez.

14. I guess it can't be said enough how little these polls mean
I didn't say they're meaningless mind you. But Hillary as always has what she has had and only always will have, she's an A-list celebrity. Everyone knows who she is. Her name is said 100 times a day on talk radio every day for the last 13 years.

15. These recent polls tell me only two important things
McCain is getting hurt by advocating more troops and this may eventuually (hopefully) stick to him during the primaries/election. Two, if Al Gore enters the race he will have a significant impact. Other than that...its too early to speculate.

16. Actually, by the time the election rolled around, and McCain was exposed to Americans...
Gore would squash him like a rotten grape, voting machines willing.

We need to turn the whole country blue.
