Newt Gets His Own FOX News Special
http://www.tpmcafe.com/blog/electioncentral/2006/dec/14/newt_gets_his_own_fox_news_special

<snip>
Newt Gingrich is getting an early start on appealing to the Christian Right in preparation for a prospective Presidential bid — and he's doing it with the invaluable help of Fox News. The network is set to run a special hosted by Gingrich called "One Nation Under God — Religion and History in Washington, D.C." airing this weekend. Fox is running an ad touting the program, promoting a central place for religion in the country's politics, and featuring footage of Ronald Reagan. The ad goes on by asking, "why are classrooms, courtrooms and even our government fighting to force God out of public life?" The ad for Newt's show was awfully similar to a political ad for him. Really, the only thing missing from it was a disclaimer: "I'm Newt Gingrich, and I approved this message."

1. Dating show, advice for men cheating on their wives, fifty ways to leave
your dying spouse? He's got experiences that could help the rest of us, I guess.

5. Newt is the one RW candidateI'm really afraid of.
I live in Ga, andhe could easily carry the South! The other problem is, he really has speaking abilities almost as good as BC! He has the ability to "Tell somevody to go to hell and make him happy he's on his way!"

It sares me because I haven't seen any Dem potential candidates with the ability to out manuver him!

7. His "Ability"
I think his "ability" only applies to religious fanatics and brain dead morons who have not had an independent thought since birth.

9. I think it would be foolish to overlook Newt's appeal to the rightwing...
and many moderate Republicans. He embodies a "return to Reaganism" for many of them. He's a dangerous candidate.

10. If the Newt Gingrich that I've heard speak on television is the
Newt Gingrich that you say is almost as good as Bill Clinton, he must have some really good days and some really bad days. And I've only caught the bad ones.

12. I think it depends on who he's talking to. Believe me, I'm a VERY
critical persowhen it comes to speaking ability and ability to get a message out. Very few people are really good at it. But if you don't believe me, just try to remember the "Contract with America". That was Newt's idea, and he pulled it off very well then.

16. Oh, but you forget. Newt is also his own worst enemy.
Newt has been on the sidelines for quite a while now due entirely to his own overreaching. He's a narcissist and doesn't know when to stop. He therefore ends up making himself look foolisth -- and humiliated. He then blames it all on the media (for merely reporting what he has done/said), which is also a primary narcissistic.

I don't think you need to wrry about Newt. He doesn't have a Rove to manage his every word and thought. And won't. (Too egotistic for that anyway.)

I think he'd get trampled. In a climate where anything Republican is almost entirely verboten (not that that climate will necessarily last until 2008), I'd WELCOME seeing more of ole Newtie.

6. We need to get MudCat on the case now
We need some dirt on Gingrich and we need to put it out there every day. I'm willing to run a negative campaign just on his failed marriages. We need to state this guy is an irresponsible hippie who avoided the draft, etc.

8. Newt & Fox will try to rewrite history
They will sell the idea that America is a Christian nation founded
by Christians so Christianity should be everywhere including;
Schools, Govt., and the Judiciary.

However this is dead wrong.

From Tommy Jeff's memorial wall.

Taken from a letter to Dr. Benjamin Rush, September 23, 1800.

Almighty God hath created the mind free…All attempts to influence it by temporal punishments or burthens…
are a departure from the plan of the Holy Author of our religion…No man shall be compelled to frequent or
support any religious worship or ministry or shall otherwise suffer on account of his religious opinions or belief,
but all men shall be free to profess and by argument to maintain, their opinions in matters of religion. I know
but one code of morality for men whether acting singly or collectively.

15. Is Newt himself a church goer?
I hadn't thought so.
'
Mostly I see this as Straussian drivel -- religion (the opiate of the masses, said Lenin) is good for the masses, but the elite need not bother. It keeps the masses "moral," obedient and compliant.

19. So will he, Santorum, George Allen, Conrad Burns & Jim Talent all get shows?
Pox, uh, Fox can just run them back-to-back from 7:00 to midnight, after which they can all hit the bricks for some meth and man-ass with newly syndicated defrocked preacher Ted Haggard.
