Why are we putting everything on Pelosi's shoulders?

I've been thinking about this quite a bit the last few days. It seems that here and in the MSM, that pretty much the whole kitnkaboodle is being laid at the feet of Nancy Pelosi. Why?

Yes, she's the incoming Speaker of the House. Was Denny Hastert getting the same attention and camera face time? Why did we spend so much time on Tom DeLay but Steny Hoyer is barely mentioned?

Maybe what we need to do is put the majority of pressure on the Majority Leader, Hoyer. He's going to have his hands full with this Congress, but he needs to be hearing from us. And like it or not, Rahm Emmanuel is the Caucus Chair and needs a kick in the pants to keep them organized with a common voice.

Let's let Speaker Pelosi do her job and make SURE Majority Leader Hoyer does his!

in by picking everything said apart right along with the RW media spin being used. It's really a shame.

I can be mad as heck at Clinton policies, but would never accept the RW media spin that is used against them.

Quite familiar with that one. I completely agree. In an attempt to look 'reasonable', it comes back and bites them in the ass every time. Don't Think of An Elephant should be required reading for every Democratic spokesperson and they should have regular media appearance practice sessions...mandatory.

Hoyer and Emanuel report to her and you can bet anything they do gets run past her first.

In other words, divert attention to Hoyer and Emanuel if you wish to, but Pelosi is the top dog.

I guess part of what I'm wondering in the 'political sense' so to speak is...Is this the best way for US to be approaching things?

It's not as much diverting attention as it is making sure they get behind her. There have already been several 'Pelosi's taken a hit' type of things (Murtha vs. Hoyer, for one). I'm not convinced that Hoyer would stand behind her and might possibly even undermine her. Dunno. :shrug: But, pushing Hoyer and Emanual not only makes sure it's getting to her because as you said it all gets run past her, it also has the impact that it is coming from supporters.

There aren't too many closer relationships in Congress than that of Pelosi and Emanuel.

3. Difference between Pelosi/Hastert and Hoyer/DeLay

Hastert was known to be a puppet for DeLay from the moment he was chosen--there was barely any attempt to pretend otherwise, even by the Republicans. Hastert was just the least likely to get in DeLay's way or to melt down the way Bob Livingston did.

Pelosi is a genuine Speaker, chosen by her party, and holding the real reins to power. Hoyer is a lesser player.

Emanuel May Handle Party Message

Buried in a Los Angeles Times piece on Nancy Pelosi taking the Speaker's gavel next month is news that "plans are also afloat to move the House Democrats' main communications operation from the speaker's office to incoming Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel of Illinois. He would handle party message and rapid response."

5. Pelosi is the top ranking Democratic leader.

While the executive is held by the Republican Party her position is equivalent to Newt Ginrich after the 94 election. I think that it is quite right that the speaker of the house be the leader of the opposition party in this sort of situation.

Newt was a creep. However as the leader of the opposition party he got and deserved to get a lot of media attention. So does Pelosi. I think she will be just fine.
