Will Republicans Find the Courage to Tell Bush and Cheney It Is Time To Go?

But if the Republican party is to survive, it must face the fact that Bush and Cheney have been the worst executive team ever to hold office. The Republicans must face the reality that their party could literally become extinct if they passively sit by and allow Bush and Cheney to continue the incredibly destructive job of leadership they have been doing the past six years.
It is not just about saving their party. It is about saving the nation. The US is no longer tumbling down an economic and diplomatic fall. It is plummetting down, losing economic viability, losing allies, becoming the planetary pariah that was once the role of Bush.

Bush is already among the walking dead. His secretary of state is one of the most ineffective, useless ever. His appointees have, deservedly, earned the mistrust of the world. Why would anyone trust ANY of the appointees Bush has chosen?

Every day the Republicans in the congress continue to allow Bush to stay in office, they violate their duty to their constituents, to the nation, to the constitution, to international laws.
Now, it's understandable that the Republicans don't want to give up the last bastion of federal power they have, but failure to do will cost them even more dearly in 2008.

It is notable that no polling organizations are asking the question-- Will you vote for a Democratic or Republican presidential candidate in 2008? They're not asking because the answer will be devastating to the Republican party. Shame on the pollsters for not asking. Then again, having commissioned public opinion polls myself, I know that it may be that the questions are being asked, results gathered, but NOT reported.

2. If Bush is impeached or resigned, it will come

from the Republicans. Otherwise, it will be called vengence on the part of the Democrats.

3. I agree

they really need to save their party. When the democrats come in they will show how a congress is supposed to work again. Not like the do nothing congress we had over the last 6 years. Their party really needs to be saved for the good of the USA. The reason being is that absolute power corrupts. In no way do I ever want to advocate a party controlling the WH, Senate & Congress by a huge majority ever again. We need diversity to survive.

4. I can't see this happening because

a. There is no evidence of current, leading R figures putting country ahead of party.

b. The same group has been intimidated (and adopted that technique) for years now by this administration. There are very few signs of courage and those who speak out have paid a high price.

c. God hasn't anyone to take on this task or we would have heard that already.

5. I would be happy if they just toddled off to an

undisclosed location and STFU thank you. Impeachment would tear the country apart and the senate would not vote to convict.
Waste of time. The Dems should just ignore them and go about the business of getting the country back on track.

Whistleblowers have been working with Members of Congress and some 'friendly' Federal Prosecutors quitly behind the scenes on many fronts.When Hearings start in January I think that so much damaging info on bushco and their crimes will be released that even freepers will be screaming for their heads.
At that point it will be political suicide for any repukes to not favor impeachment.

7. The reactionary right never hestitates to accuse and punish (something that can't be said of Dems)

The BIGGEST problem the Democratic Party has is the perception that they are weak and unprincipled. The NUMBER ONE reason for that perception is the reluctance of people on "our side" when it comes to accusation and punishment. We "make sure it doesn't happen again" and "investigate" and the wrong-doers laugh and say "Gee, for a minute there I thought they were actually gonna Do Something!"

If the Democrats don't get over their addiction irrational tactical analysis that focuses almost exclusively on the "certain" negative consequences of action, while willfully ignoring the benefits of action and the risks of failing to act, the Republicans may well beat the Dems to the punch.

For the sake of our national soul, I don't care who acts first, as long as they ACT.

For the sake of the Democratic Party, I hope we can Wake the Democratic caucus UP. They have failed the nation over, and over, and over. If they fail us on this, it could be the final straw. The Party may never recover from their refusal to fight for the principle of consent and for We the People; refusal to say NO to torture.

If the Republicans take up the fight for impeachment, it will be the Republican Party that becomes the champion of Constitutional principle.
